Bad Gastein - Sportgastein

Bad Gastein - Sportgastein: Never a bad ski vacation As far as beginner skiing goes in Bad Gastein, it doesn’t get much better or more diverse than Sportgastein. Beginners can go skiing at just under 900 meters and hit the slopes at altitudes as high as 2686 meters, with plenty of green slopes for beginners. Bad Gastein night skiing is always a favourite choice, with snow cannons shooting off fireworks of snow twinkling like stars under stadium lights. There are 65 ski runs in total, and an 8 km run said to be quite fast - 20 of the runs are wide beginner slopes with only six dedicated to expert skiers. Bad Gastein ski holiday is intended to serve the entire family. Bad Gastein has always been good to snowboarders, too. There is freestyle park for those who don’t mind going home with bruises. Go off-piste with guide to hit the Hohe Tauern National Park; there, 90 km of paths await. The Salzburg airport is only 90 km away, with daily shuttles to and from the airport. One ski pass connects skiing bunnies and snowboard junkies to Ski Amade.
Bad Gastein Accommodation: Hotels, chalets, apartments and other lodging can be grabbed up on the cheap in Bad Gastein, largely in the low season. With deals like five days for just over two hundred Euros, it’s no wonder why people eat this place up during the ski season. Several new Bad Gastein hotels are under construction, so it won’t be long before there are plenty of beds for every visitor.

Bad Hofgastein – Great Ski Holidays in Austria Bad Hofgastein is an Austrian ski resort with Austrian amenities — nothing short of panoramas, great restaurants, extraordinary skiing and interconnectivity between ski areas. Bad Hofgastein (Salzburg airport is less than 90 km away) has great skiing access within the whole Gastein ski area; Bad Hofgastein proper has over 175 km of ski runs while the Gastein ski area compromises another 102 separate pistes. Most of the skiing is above the 2000 meter mark, so most of Bad Hofgastein is snow-sure with the all inclusive lift pass giving snowboarding and skiing access to Sportgastein, Graukogel, Dorfgastein and Bad Gastein. There are 300 snow cannons spread up and down the slopes, so almost 100 km of ski runs can be doused in buckets of snow should Mother Nature relent. The biggest vertical drop is 1455 meters with one slope going for 7.8 km. Drag lift (7), chair lift (7), cable car (3) and gondola (2) serve all of Bad Hofgastein when the crowds get big. Cross-country and skate cross-country skiing is all possible; with the former having 35 km and the latter having 10 km. Snowboarding is mostly found in the Funpark Boarders Paradise in Dorfgastein – Grossarl link. The Bad Hofgastein centre is pedestrianized, so après ski rambunctiousness will not get any one injured by oncoming traffic.
Bad Hofgastein Accommodation: Bad Hofgastein is overrun with luxury hotels. Finding five-star lodging here is not difficult if pre-booked. Many of the best deals are found online, with discounts given to those staying for seven or more days (low season). Additionally, apartments, chalets and "palaces" make staying here affordable for budget and bountiful spenders.

Bad Kleinkirchheim: Ski Holidays Go Alpine Bad Kleinkirchheim is known as a place to unbend and de-stress, with visitors getting spoiled at every turn (off the slopes too of course).
The whole Bad Kleinkirchheim area is covered in trees, look and feel that leaves the soul rejuvenated. The Nockberge (with national park bearing the same name) and all thermal spas around (Bad means thermal baths) are enough to keep patrons happy apres ski. Bad Kleinkirchheim skiing and snowboarding start at 1100 meters and rise to just over 2000 meters. Moreover, there are just over 100 km of ski runs with 32 total ski slopes.
Though it doesn’t sound like much, the one 4 km slope will keep most guests content. The nearest airport to easily access Bad Kleinkirchheim is 50 km away, making mini ski vacations doable. Renting equipment is a breeze with plenty of places to buy gear too.
Bad Kleinkirchheim Accommodation: The alpine growth of Bad Kleinkirchheim shrouds many of the hotels, apartments, chalets and lodges behind an overgrowth of trees. It’s likely that any rental will have a view of some forested edge. Bad Kleinkirchheim accommodation fills up quickly during the open-air music festival in January, so book early if you want to hear folk tunes while skiing.
For those looking for more fun in winter than skiing, then be sure to take advantage of the large variety of alternative winter sports on offer, ice skating, ice curling or a night time toboggan party. Also, Bad Kleinkirchheim also offers 60 km of winter walking paths, ice Curling at the "Einkehr" Restaurant/ at the "Bach" part of the village, 500 m, ice-rink directly at the tennis hall, horse drawn sleigh rides through the romantic winter countryside and 2 Toboggan runs with 4 km of floodlit toboggan runs on the Kaiserburg (high season Wednesday from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. night tobogganing on the floodlit Kaiserburg I) and 4 km on the Falkerthaus toboggan run.

Flachau
13.392690
47.344250
Flachau – Ski Destination Where Legends Are Born Flachau gets a lot of pres because it is part of one of Austria’s biggest ski areas—that alone is enough to attract a ski-happy crowd. Flachau is part of the Salzburger Sportwelt Amade ski area, with Flachauwinkl, Wagrain and Kleinarl, in turn interlinking Alpendorf and Zauchensee.
Many Europeans generally and Austrians specifically know the area because of Herman Maier (Herminator), the Olympic (and World) Champ. Skiing in Austria, and Flachau itself, is second to none: 41 ski runs covering some 111 km; 2 black runs, 9 red runs, 6 blue runs and 1 green run make blue and red skiers love Flachau; the right ski pass opens up a whopping 1200 km of pistes, one of the largest in Austria.
One slope is 6 km long with a vertical drop of more than 1170 meters. Drag, chair, cable lift and gondola take skiers and boarders to the top of 2000 meters, the maximum altitude.
The snowboarding world has, of course, heard of the Riegler sisters, Manuela and Claudia, who come from Flachau. New or augmented snow makes the fun park and half pipe a real treat, where boarders are welcomed openly. Airport transfers from Salzburg airport (73 km away) is by bus or private car hire. Flachau, like the rest of Austria, turns into an outdoor Mecca in the summertime as well.
Flachau Accommodation: Hotels, alpine chalets, apartments and most other lodging offer an alpine-y feel, even if the accommodation itself is large. That the buildings never overshadow the landscape and nature is given its due respect may have something to do with it. Nearly 15 to 20% discounts can be had in the low season and summer, making a four star accommodation well worth the price.

Heiligenblut – Grossglockner – Where Ski Holidays Are Quaint Heiligenblut – Grossglockner (a.k.a. Großglockner) is one of those picturesque villages that just seem like a drop out of reality. Time seems to stand still for the beauty of the place. Skiers come to challenge themselves on some demanding ski runs; others come to relax. Though the word “village” brings about mental images of isolation, Heiligenblut – Grossglockner has a lot to do: There is an indoor tennis court and swimming pool, both a necessary part of any ski vacation. Moreover, skiing is higher and faster with the installation of a new gondola in 2008. The rest of the 14 ski lifts serve another 20 individual slopes. Snow is always reliable in Heiligenblut with a minimum and maximum altitude of 1301 and 2902 meters respectfully. The resort lies at 1300 meters, with 2 black runs, 9 red runs and 9 blue runs above that. When the snow gets icy and Mother Nature backpedals on her snow production, 50 snow cannons can cover 40 km of slopes in mere minutes. Skiing or snowboard foray in Austria is never wasted on other skiers’ leftovers. Heiligenblut – Grossglockner is a children's bliss with the “Bobo Kid’s Club” and “Snowland Club”—a place to leave the children while adult skiers hit the pistes. Heiligenblut – Grossglockner Accommodation: Many of the hotels in Heiligenblut are just a few steps from some of the best slopes. These three to four star lodges also offer out-of-doors snow hiking trails to boot. Apartments are found just a bit farther outside of the Heiligenblut town center.

Hintertuxer Gletscher – Ski Vacations In The Clouds Hintertuxer Gletscher offers nearly 90 km of skiing during any part of the season, as the altitude is 850 meters on the low end and 3250 meters on the high end. The total lifts—10 drag, 6 chair, and 5 cable cars—take skiers and snowboarders to slopes, fun parks or the famous always-snowy Hintertux Glacier. There are 227 km of slopes at Hintertuxer Gletscher, but the longest run last for over 12 km — that is a lot of vertical feet to lose in just minutes! This 12 km decent is known locally as the “Schwarze Pfanne.” The blue runs go for nearly 60 km, while the red and black runs travel for 134 km and 32 km respectively, so there is a lot of ground to cover if one stays only for a ski weekend. Those interested in more can find Tux and Finkenberg in the Glacier World Zillertal 3000, the highest ski area with slopes and all the toys for snowboarders. To access over 630 km of skiable terrain, skiers must invest in the Zillertaler Superski Pass, which has special pricing ranges for various holidays (and low seasons) during the ski season. Other outdoor thrill-seeker sports include 350 km of hiking, and a cave called Spannagel (Spannangelhöhle) should not be missed. Canyoning, paragliding, biking, climbing and summer skiing with 18 km of slopes (with 9 lifts) is nothing short of astonishing. The resort lies well below the high altitude skiing and snowboard park (with the world’s highest Worldcup half pipe).
Hintertuxer Gletscher Accommodation: Sport hotels, apartments, lodges, and chalets await those with hefty or empty pocketbook. The three star prices offer some of the best short-notice deals, with luxury hotels offering something for those with little time but lots of cash.

Hochfügen Hochzillertal
11.841080
47.316220
Hochfügen Hochzillertal - A Hoch Wild Ski Holiday Hochfügen Hochzillertal relies on close connection to the Innsbruck airport which is only 50 km away. Though Hochfügen Hochzillertal looks strangely small on paper - 32 total ski runs for instance, though in reality there is over 155 km in all. The lowest attitude is about as low as possible at 558 meters, but the maximum height of 2501 meters means plenty of long rides, the longest being 8 km from start to finish. The farthest drop any skier will ride here loses 1943 meters. The slopes are open only for over four months, from the beginning of December untill the end of April, so there is a lot of artificial snow, some areas as high as 70%. The drag, chair or cable lift (no gondola here) transport thousands to the top per hour. One highlight of Hochfügen Hochzillertal is the snowboarding park. There is a freestyle park with slides, boxes, jumps, half pipe, fun park with plenty of long pipes and rails with sound system. Those not into either skiing or snowboarding at Hochfügen Hochzillertal will still be in luck. Ice skating, ice-climbing, horse-sledging, snow tubing, tobogganing and other slope saunters make life here always fast and fun.
Hochfügen Hochzillertal Accommodation: The four villages of Aschau, Ried, Stumm and Kaltenbach provide several options for lodging, from two to four-room apartments to self-catering chalets and four-star hotels. The thirty-plus bars and restaurants (10 bars and 20 restaurants) means eating out away from the hotel is always an accessible option.

Innsbruck Olympia Ski World: A Close-by Ski Holiday Innsbruck Olympia Ski World is "close-by" because no other ski resort in Austria is as close to the airport, bus or train station as Innsbruck Olympia Ski World. The airport and train station are merely 2 km away. The Innsbruck Glacier Ski Pass gives skiing enthusiasts and snowboarding freaks access to "count ‘em" 9 different ski areas, all close by. Places like Nordpark, Glungezer, Muttereralm, Schlick 2000 and Stubai Glacier are all on the same ticket - even the shuttle service to and fro is free-of-charge! Innsbruck Olympia Ski World also includes snowboarding, with half pipes, wave rides, jumps, boxes, corners, fun park and slides all dedicated to freestyle atmosphere. There are over 100 ski runs, and nearly three times as many (282) km of ski slopes, with the longest being just 10 km long - what a ride. Max. altitude of Innsbruck Olympia is 2256 meters, and draglift, chair lift or Gondola take skiers to the uttermost pinnacle.
Innsbruck Olympia Ski World Accommodation: From small alpine chalets to large sky-rise hotels, Innsbruck Olympia Ski World is built up to handle thousands of visitors. The best lodge deals are found with longterm stay, from seven nights onwards. Two people can find accommodation together for seven days under 500 euros. During the high skiing season, that’s quite a deal. Other hotels are being built, as there is minor accommodation construction boom taking place in the area that is not likely to taper any time soon.

Ischgl – Add Variety to Austrian Ski Vacations With such altitude, Ischgl in Austria can almost guarantee 100% snow, so while there are some snow cannons (490 over all), most of them are switched off for the high season. Areas within and around Ischgl, Tyrol and the Paznaun Valley (11 hamlets covering over 10,000 hectares) do not have much of population, though this increases tenfold once skiers and boarders start rolling in. Most skiers find the best of slopes in Ischgl lie to the south of town behind the mountains. There are 66 total runs, equating to 235 km of slopes. The slope breakdown, then, is 38 km of blues, 132 km of reds and 45 km of blacks. The longest slope drops nearly 1500 meters for 11km. The lowest altitude here is often other resort’s highest at 1400 meters. The highest terrain for skiing in Ischgl is at 2872 meters. Innsbruck is only 100 km away, so ski weekends or longer ski holidays are easily organised. If visitors have six or more days, ski pass links up 230 total km of pistes. There are plenty of lifts to accommodate all visitors to Ischgl, resort often flooded with patrons during the high season. Plenty of ski room is made, however, with the completion of 5 cable cars, 20 chairlifts, 14 draglifts and 3 gondolas (offering the best panoramas). The après ski agendas range from concerts, pubs, sleigh trips, massages, ice-skating to discotheques.
Ischgl Accommodation: During Mountain Concerts it is a little harder to find hotels close by. However, there are some discounts to be had if lodging is booked in advance. Many of the hotels, chalets and hotels with service (not apartments) have childcare and offer classes for the little ones.

Katschberg - Rennweg
13.606630

Katschberg – Rennweg – Sunnier and Snowier Austria Ski Holidays The Lungau ski area houses the Katschberg-Aineck-Rennweg (part of Carinthia) ski area. Though the area has an abundance of snowy slopes to offer both skiers and boarders, the inclusive ski pass gives access to Fanningberg and Brobeck Speiereck, where snow is guaranteed.
The skies are always sunny and slopes are always covered in a fine dusting of powdery snow. If not, Katschberg - Reenweg can cover near all its slopes with machine-made flakes. The slopes around the 2000-meter mark (the highest is 2200 meters) generally get pounded, while the areas toward 1640 meters (the lowest point) do sometimes need snowmaking assistance.
There are 30 ski runs unfurled over 66 km of pistes. The longest slope travels for 6 km, a drop of about 550 vertical meters. The slope breakdown for beginners, intermediate and experts is 6 blues, 18 reds and 6 blacks. Intermediate skiers will have the most slope selection, with intermediate Katschberg skiing offering up nearly four times the kilometers of skiing when compared to the blue and black runs.
The cost of skiing and snowboarding (half pipe, fun park and jumps amok) varies with the low, mid, and high season. Most anytime, however, skiers will pay 150 Euros to 200 Euros as an adult. Katschberg - Rennweg Accommodation: Three and four star hotels dot Katschberg, as visitors keep coming more and more every year.
The prices are similar to French resorts, though discounts start occurring later in the ski season. Alpine chalets and apartments make some of the most financial sense, as many are only a doorstep away from the lifts.

Cable cars (9), chairlifts (28) and draglifts (17) connect the whole Kitzbühel skiing and snowboarding area. The lowest altitude is just over 800 meters with the highest cable car going to 1892 meters. These make it possible to ski all of Hahnenkamm and Pengelstein, Jochberg and Resterhohe—168 km of possible skiing. Kitzbühel caters to groups and families looking for a nice spread of slopes, just 90 km from Innsbruck. There are 75 total ski runs covering 168 km. The 13 km ski run dropping vertically for 1200 meters is the longest run. The remaining of the ski runs are broken up into smaller segments, with reds having the most at 78 km, blues having 67 km and blacks including only 23 km. Cross-country crisscrosses the Kitzbühel area with 120 km of classic runs. If boarders are interested in Kitzbühel snowboarding then it’s best to buy the ski pass that interlinks all the ski areas, especially if riding for six or more days. All the après skiing venues, such as pubs, restaurants, discos mixed with ski huts, ski schools, ice skating, curling and some awesome night skiing grow more extravagant each and every ski season.
Kitzbühel Accommodation: Alpine chalets and hotels just walking distance from the town center and apartments for big or small families, Kitzbühel is the perfect place for three and four star travelers. Of course, the luxury hotels and accommodation are second to none for those who have a pocketbook to match.

Lech – Zürs Am Arlberg – Ski Holidays With You & Children In Mind Lech and Zürs have a sustained spell that makes visitors keep falling in love with them. They are in one of the most renowned areas of Austria, once the filming location for Bridget Jones’ The Edge of Reason. A jump from 120 km away in Innsbruck puts skiers in Lech – Zürs Am Arlberg, with connections to St.Anton, St. Christoph, Lech Zurs itself, Stuben and Sonnenkopf—these give a total skiing area of 280 km of skiing. There are in total 122 ski runs in Lech – Zürs, with the total of 280 km divided into 108 km of blues, 139 km of reds and 30 km of blacks. The highest point lies at a decent altitude for the Alps, and if skiers can link certain ski areas with one of the lift systems, then a daytime ski bus can ferry passengers to and fro for free. The longest slope in the whole region is 5 km, but come prepared for some hidden obstacles and knarly turns. Lech – Zürs Am Arlberg is a relief for families with rambunctious children: There is a child slope, child lift, child park, child carpet lift and, fortunately, child care. Because kids grow out of ski equipment so fast, all the boots and poles and skis are rentable. Skiing is made easier with all help with children. Other activities for children and families include ice-skating, tobogganing, horse drawn sleigh rides, animal feeding areas, and museums are full of interesting local history.
Lech – Zürs Am Arlberg Accommodation: Throughout the whole ski area, the options of places to stay can almost be overwhelming. Given that, it is best to come prepared with set itinerary with hotel, apartment, chalet, lodge, or other cozy accommodation pre-booked. Hotels can and do book up quickly during the high season, so be forewarned if booking just weeks before a ski holiday.

The Matreier Goldried ski resort is in the upper Isel Valley. Matrei is the main town of the region and of the cosy villages of Prägraten a. G. and Huben. It is close to the corner of the Alps where snow is almost a certainty, so even if there is no snow anywhere else our pistes are well prepared using snow cannons as back up. There is also a 4 seat glass, cable car known as the ("4er-Bubble") for a comforatable lift to the mountain top. Those who would like to can try out the superlative "Cima Ross" run - will enjoy a 12 km long ski - right down to the valley.

Mayrhofen – Zillertal – Accessible Ski Vacations Near Innsbruck
The Mayrhofen ski resort and area is included in the Zillertal Ski Area. While families on a long ski holiday could rightfully find plenty of slopes in Mayrhofen, the Zillertal area encompasses Fugen, Finkenberg, Hippach, Kaltenback, Zell am Ziller, Hintertux and the Hippach ski area. The Zillertal 3000 lift ticket created resort collaboration, where skiers and snowboarders have access to Eggalm and Rastkogel, too. Gondola opened up Mayrhofen in 1995 making Penken the central local ski area. All this skiing is only a short 70 km from Innsbruck. In Mayrhofen (Zillertal) proper, 43 total ski runs braid in and out forming 157 km of total runs. The 5.5 km long Ahorn Valley run drops an impressive 1300 meters. The resort begins at 630 meters and tops out at 2500 meters, the highest maximum altitude. Between these altitudes lies 92 km of blue runs (22 total runs), 45 km of red runs (27 total runs) and 20 km of black (3 total runs) and 20 km of cross-country trails—all speedily served by 30 ski lifts. Snowboarding at Mayrhofen is never second-rate. The Gerent Ridge is collectively known as one of the supreme place to ride, with plenty of spacious slopes at Penken and the Vans Penken Park at Hintertrett.
Mayrhofen (Zillertal) Accommodation: Mayrhofen has all sorts of places to rest a weary head (and arms, legs and back). Hotels and apartments mesh together here forming lodges known as "Apparthotels" where the alpine views are as good as the adequate prices. There are three and four star hotels in Mayrhofen that are suitable for families and even pets (allowed in may places).

Mölltaler Gletscher – Ski Vacations With Some Serious Altitude Mölltaler Gletscher has not only one of the longest funiculars in the Alps but it is also one of the finest to ride. The ride lasts less than 10 minutes from start to finish. There is another panorama-filled gondola up to the glacier. The mountains call out their names behind in the wind: “Sonnblick” and “Grossglockner”. Austria skiing never takes a back seat and proves it again here at Mölltaler Gletscher. The minimum altitude is not so low at 1200 meters, with the highest accessible point at 3122 meters. The closest airport is only 120 km away, making perfect ski holidays as accessible as they are uncomplicated with the direct bus from the airport and Mallnitz railway station. The 17 ski runs should not fool anyone, as some are fanatically fast—the longest run travels for 7 km, losing some 1100 meters. The remaining runs are blues, reds and blacks, evenly distributed with 8 blues (19 km), 5 reds (24 km) and 4 blacks (10 km). One ski pass, however, opens up a la-la land of other skiing and snowboarding precincts in and around Mölltaler Gletscher. These 335 km of ski runs include Matreier Goldried, Lienzer Bergbahnen, Hochgebirgsbahnen Ankogel and Bergbahnen Kals among many others. Snowboarding in Mölltaler Gletscher contains half-pipe, fun park and cross. Almost anything that can be done outdoors takes place here, so finding other on- or off-piste activities and après ski venues is straightforward.
Mölltaler Gletscher Accommodation: An abundance of three and four star hotels in and around Mölltaler Gletscher makes prices reasonable and affordable for patrons looking for a ski week (or more) holiday. There are three and four star hotels and apartments with some nice doorstep skiing access. Several five star hotels couldn’t have a more beautiful location or be closer to all the recreation. Chalets and other lodging can be found dispersed throughout the ski belt.

Nassfeld Hermagor: A Vast Ski Vacation Destination There are many great skiing resorts in Nassfeld Hermagor. However, not all make the top ten cut. Nassfeld Hermagor, however, seems to always make it to the "Top 10 Austrian Resorts" category. One reason that the Nassfeld luck does not run thin is the snow reliability of the place. Even during the global warming crisis gripping many other European resorts, Mother Nature dumps snow on Nassfeld every winter. Not to mention that ski pistes range from beginner, intermediate to world class. The Millennium Express transports visitors throughout the Alp area, for this is the longest cable car in the Alps - this speaks of the modernity of the whole ski resort. Easily reachable from the Klagenfurt airport just 50 km away, Nassfeld Hermagor encompasses quite the category of ski runs: There are 37 runs, made up of 110 km in length. The longest slope is almost 8 km long and night skiing, a snowboarding park and tons of cross-country runs (91 km) with skate cross-country runs (24 km) make finding a slope for any level possible.
Nassfeld Hermagor Accommodation: Hotels with spas, apartments with restaurants and lodges close to the slopes make Nassfeld Hermagor seem like paradise on earth. There are plenty of 2-4 star hotels nearby, accommodating families with and without money to spare. If there are large groups, houses can be rented per week, though pricing can vary depending on the locale to the slopes. Nassfeld Hermagor accommodation can book up quickly during the high season, but that is no reason that skiers cannot find a last minute place to stay.

Obergurgl – Hochgurgl – Ski Holidays With Snowy Slopes

All of these things and more can be taken in with a ride up the “Top Express” gondola, which also links Obergurgl and Hochgurgl to each other. Obergurgl – Hochgurgl is connected to Sölden, so the right lift ticket gets skiers and boarders to over 250 km of skiing. Obergurgl – Hochgurgl itself has 110 of kilometers spread over 27 total runs. The longest being 8 km with a vertical drop of 1260 meters. All these ski runs hold some challenging blues, reds and blacks, e.i., that every level will have enough challenges to aid improvement on the slopes. There are 12 blue runs traveling for 35 km, 11 red runs careening for 55 km and 4 black runs meandering for 20 km, drag and chair lift with the gondola for quick lift. Obergurgl – Hochgurgl offers cross-country skiing, ice-skating, snowboarding, ice curling and snowshoeing. Wintertime deals keeps the skiers coming but all the runs are always fully groomed like virgin slopes.

In Obertauern snow is present from late November until early May. Would you like to enjoy pure winter pleasure? Then come “right to the top”.
If you want to enjoy a dreamlike holiday in one of the skiing areas in the Alps that can virtually guarantee snow. If you would like to experience local vibrant nightlife; then you are in the right place, here in Obertauern.
The greatest advantage with which the renowned Salzburg winter-sport community is happy to proliferate, is its location. Just 90 kilometres from the city of Mozart and reached as easily from Vienna or Munich. “Austria’s snow bowl” has practically become the skiing suburb of many further German metropolises. Not only the traffic location, but the height location is also unique. The community centre lies at 1,740 metres, and the runs stretch like the spokes on a gigantic wheel over the flanks of a majestic mountain backdrop to a height of 2,526 metres.

Pitztal Glacier – Rifflesee – Simple To Skilled Slopes For A Ski Vacations Pitztal Glacier (Rifflesee) is a central location for skiers and boarders interested in getting some powder just minutes from Innsbruck some 57 km away. Ski schools really thrive at Pitztal Glacier (Rifflesee) with the spectrum of perfect altitude range (from 1640 meters to 3440 meters). Though there’s not much connectivity between other ski resorts, Pitztal Glacier (Rifflesee) has enough challenging slopes by itself, with one slope losing nearly 2000 meters (1800 m). The slope breakdown is 14 km of blues, 27 km of reds, and 7 km of blacks. The total number of ski slopes accessible under the only ski pass is 48 km. All three levels, however, may not be adequately rated for each level—a difficult blue is closer to an easy red for instance, so visitors must exercise caution on all the slopes no matter ability. Much of Austria’s skiing last for a long and snowy winter. Pitztal Glacier is by no means different. The ski season opens up in mid September and runs until mid-May (or longer). When Mother Nature refuses to dump the buckets of fresh powder, over 70% of the total ski runs can be covered with homemade flakes. The après ski venues are not as extreme as larger resorts, but the restaurants and pubs are just as succulent. Plus, the serenity brings a certain peace to dinner after a day on the scarp.
Pitztal Glacier Rifflesee Accommodation: Much of the accommodation in and around Pitztal Glacier has that alpine feel. Three star hotels are the easiest to find, especially at the beginning and end of the ski season. Some hotels are dubbed as “Sport” or “Spa”, which means they offer certain luxuries that other lodges do not.

Schladming-Rohrmoos (Planai Ski Resort) – Interconnected Ski Vacations
Schladming-Rohrmoos is a big part of the Dachstein-Tauern Ski Area, where a well-priced ski lift pass bestows access to Ramsau am Dachstein, Reiteralm and Hauserkaibling — Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm mountains have been interlinked for almost two decades. In all, Schladming-Rohrmoos (Planai Ski Resort) provides 30 ski runs (for 114 km) while the Dachstein-Tauern Ski Area gives way to 860 km of total skiing. The longest run in Schladming-Rohrmoos itself is 7.7 km, losing 1100 meters of elevation in just a couple of minutes. Schladming-Rohrmoos pistes and resort altitude start around the 750-meter mark, while the highest lift reaches 1900 meters. Getting to Schladming-Rohrmoos has never been easier or quicker, with direct bus from the Salzburg airport 90 km away and the railway station at Schladming providing trouble-free transport. In Schladming-Rohrmoos alone, skiers and snowboarders will have access to 1 expert ski run, 18 intermediate runs and 6 blue runs. The whole area gives access to over 300 km of cross-country skiing trails to boot. Snowboarding in the Planai is considered very good, with two more snowboard areas at Burton Superpark and Hoxhwurzen.
Schladming-Rohrmoos (Planai Ski Resort) Accommodation: One of the great things about Schladming-Rohrmoos hotels, apartments, chalets and lodges is the out-of-door ski access to the pistes. Staying in a three or four-star hotel (even if one can’t afford the five star brand) gives fast and reliable pistes access. Four-star apartments are very popular in the area and worth every Euro.

St. Anton –St. Christoph-Stuberg – Ski Arlberg, or the un-hyphenated version is commonly known as St. Anton am Arlberg (with St Christoph-Stuberg), located in Tyrol in Austria, a major player in the Arlberg Ski Area. All these abovementioned ski areas—including Lech and Zür—can be linked with the ski lift pass, though cable cars and ski buses work together to take skiers and boarders back and forth. St. Anton –St. Christoph-Stuberg – Ski Arlberg makes up 276 km of skiable terrain, with 85 total ski runs: with 108 km of blues, 138 km of reds and 30 km of blacks, it’s easy to see why St. Anton am Arlberg (with St. Christoph and Stuberg) make all levels and abilities feel comfortable skiing here. The longest vertical drop served by cable car is just over 1500 meters, and 80% of the slopes can be showered with 418 snow cannons. Stubaital-Neustift is only 25 km from Innsbruck, so it’s easy to see why skiing and snowboarding are so popular here—ski weekends have never been so easy. As can be discerned, Stubaital-Neustift is part of the Innsbruck Glacier Ski (and Stubai Superski) Area. At the right price and access to 140+ pistes, the ski pass affords entry to Fulpmes, Tulfes, Igls and connection to Stubaier Gletscher, Schlick 2000, Serles and Elfer. Stubaital-Neustift itself includes 18 blue runs, 9 red runs and 9 black runs, 69 km, 45 km and 33 km each respectively. One of the many highlights of Stubaital-Neustift skiing is the 10 km long piste, losing over 2100 metes of elevation; the lift ride up is worth every second of the smooth and fast ride down. Other than downhill, there are 48 km of cross-country skiing and snowboarding that includes a 10 km touring slope, the 100 meter half-pipe dubbed “Wilde Grub’n’” and some nice extensive powder. Stubaital-Neustift opens up at the end of November and closes either mid (or the end of) April.
Stubaital-Neustift Accommodation: There are several tranquil and serene lodges in Stubaital-Neustift. It’s no problem to find a room in a hotel or a furnished apartment if research and booking are taken care of early on. There are lots of festivals and races throughout the winter, so crowds do come in often. Wellness areas, saunas and spas can even be found in the four-star hotels.

Zillertal Arena: Ski Holidays Here, There & Everywhere
Zillertal Arena is a big part of what a ski vacation is about in Austria, just 55 km from Innsbruck. The Zillertal Arena is the giant of the Tyrolean Zillertal valley and Salzburg Pinzgau area. The resort starts at 580 meters and goes up to a neck-cramping altitude of 2500 meters. The valley from this height looks like the inside of a snow monster’s mouth, with jagged mountains, nooks and crannies jutting about. There are 68 total ski runs covering a whopping 163 km. The 1255 vertical descent last a seeming lifetime at nearly 10 km long — enough time to practice all various styles of downhill skiing. Zillertal Arena skiing never exposes grassy clumps or dirt; when Mother Earth refuses us earthlings virgin powder, 35% of the Zillertal Arena can be covered with machine-made flakes in a matter of minutes (by the time skiers get to the top of the lift, fresh snow will be waiting). Zillertal Arena has a good variation of ski slopes, though intermediates will have the most choices of all. They get 112 km, while beginners get 40 km and experts get 11 km. If these numbers don’t entice, then perhaps one of the 639 km of slopes found in Hochzillertal/Hochfugen, Spieljoch, Gletscherwelt or Zillertal 3000 will. Moreover, over 50 km of cross-country skiing trails awaits those who do not mind a little up with their downs on un-groomed trails. Everyone from those snowboarding to children riding the magic carpet lift (to those into night tobogganing until 1 a.m.) can rent equipment at Zillertal Arena.
Zillertal Arena Accommodation: Family hotels are one of the specialties in the Zillertal Arena; families with children are especially welcome. Additionally, three- to five-star hotels cater to a crowd looking for all-inclusive, doorstep skiing. Some areas are more akin to partying while others attract a quieter crowd. The lodging here is not segregated but tries to please all the people who make Zillertal their ski holiday destination.
