Hintertuxer Gletscher – Ski Vacations In The Clouds
Hintertuxer Gletscher offers nearly 90 km of skiing during any part of the season, as the altitude is 850 meters on the low end and 3250 meters on the high end. The total lifts—10 drag, 6 chair, and 5 cable cars—take skiers and snowboarders to slopes, fun parks or the famous always-snowy Hintertux Glacier. There are 227 km of slopes at Hintertuxer Gletscher, but the longest run last for over 12 km — that is a lot of vertical feet to lose in just minutes! This 12 km decent is known locally as the “Schwarze Pfanne.” The blue runs go for nearly 60 km, while the red and black runs travel for 134 km and 32 km respectively, so there is a lot of ground to cover if one stays only for a ski weekend. Those interested in more can find Tux and Finkenberg in the Glacier World Zillertal 3000, the highest ski area with slopes and all the toys for snowboarders. To access over 630 km of skiable terrain, skiers must invest in the Zillertaler Superski Pass, which has special pricing ranges for various holidays (and low seasons) during the ski season. Other outdoor thrill-seeker sports include 350 km of hiking, and a cave called Spannagel (Spannangelhöhle) should not be missed. Canyoning, paragliding, biking, climbing and summer skiing with 18 km of slopes (with 9 lifts) is nothing short of astonishing. The resort lies well below the high altitude skiing and snowboard park (with the world’s highest Worldcup half pipe).
Hintertuxer Gletscher Accommodation:
Sport hotels, apartments, lodges, and chalets await those with hefty or empty pocketbook. The three star prices offer some of the best short-notice deals, with luxury hotels offering something for those with little time but lots of cash.
