Mölltaler Gletscher – Ski Vacations With Some Serious Altitude
Mölltaler Gletscher has not only one of the longest funiculars in the Alps but it is also one of the finest to ride. The ride lasts less than 10 minutes from start to finish. There is another panorama-filled gondola up to the glacier. The mountains call out their names behind in the wind: “Sonnblick” and “Grossglockner”. Austria skiing never takes a back seat and proves it again here at Mölltaler Gletscher. The minimum altitude is not so low at 1200 meters, with the highest accessible point at 3122 meters. The closest airport is only 120 km away, making perfect ski holidays as accessible as they are uncomplicated with the direct bus from the airport and Mallnitz railway station. The 17 ski runs should not fool anyone, as some are fanatically fast—the longest run travels for 7 km, losing some 1100 meters. The remaining runs are blues, reds and blacks, evenly distributed with 8 blues (19 km), 5 reds (24 km) and 4 blacks (10 km). One ski pass, however, opens up a la-la land of other skiing and snowboarding precincts in and around Mölltaler Gletscher. These 335 km of ski runs include Matreier Goldried, Lienzer Bergbahnen, Hochgebirgsbahnen Ankogel and Bergbahnen Kals among many others. Snowboarding in Mölltaler Gletscher contains half-pipe, fun park and cross. Almost anything that can be done outdoors takes place here, so finding other on- or off-piste activities and après ski venues is straightforward.

An abundance of three and four star hotels in and around Mölltaler Gletscher makes prices reasonable and affordable for patrons looking for a ski week (or more) holiday. There are three and four star hotels and apartments with some nice doorstep skiing access. Several five star hotels couldn’t have a more beautiful location or be closer to all the recreation. Chalets and other lodging can be found dispersed throughout the ski belt.
