Austria’s oldest Benedictine monastery was turned into this luxury hotel in the centre of Mondsee, only a short walk from the lakeshore. It features a romantic spa area, gourmet cuisine and a unique setting within the carefully renovated castle walls. Romantik Hotel Schloss Mondsee offers spacious gallery rooms with views of the steeple, medieval cloisters, and the palace garden. The Schloss spa features a vaulted indoor pool, Finnish sauna, a steam bath and an aromatic bath, and a relaxation area. Massages are also available. Refined regional cuisine is served in the elegant Schlossgewölbe restaurant. The gourmet arrangement includes a breakfast buffet and a 4–course dinner. The rustic–style Schlossbräu offers traditional Austrian cuisine. First mentioned in documents in 739, the monastery was turned into a palace by Napoleon in 1810. Nearby Lake Mondsee and the other lakes of the Salzkammergut region offer a wide range of water sports.
