Zillertal Arena is a big part of what a ski vacation is about in Austria, just 55 km from Innsbruck. The Zillertal Arena is the giant of the Tyrolean Zillertal valley and Salzburg Pinzgau area. The resort starts at 580 meters and goes up to a neck-cramping altitude of 2500 meters. The valley from this height looks like the inside of a snow monster’s mouth, with jagged mountains, nooks and crannies jutting about. There are 70 total ski runs covering a whopping 166 km. The 1255 vertical descent last a seeming lifetime at nearly 10 km long — enough time to practice all various styles of downhill skiing. Zillertal Arena skiing never exposes grassy clumps or dirt; when Mother Earth refuses us earthlings virgin powder, 50% of the Zillertal Arena can be covered with machine-made flakes in a matter of minutes (by the time skiers get to the top of the lift, fresh snow will be waiting). Zillertal Arena has a good variation of ski slopes, though intermediates will have the most choices of all. They get 114 km, while beginners get 42 km and experts get 11 km. If these numbers don’t entice, then perhaps one of the 668 km of slopes found in Hochzillertal/Hochfugen, Spieljoch, Gletscherwelt or Zillertal 3000 will. Moreover, over 50 km of cross-country skiing trails awaits those who do not mind a little up with their downs on un-groomed trails. Everyone from those snowboarding to children riding the magic carpet lift (to those into night tobogganing until 1 a.m.) can rent equipment at Zillertal Arena.
Zillertal Arena Accommodation:
Family hotels are one of the specialties in the Zillertal Arena; families with children are especially welcome. The lodging here is not segregated but tries to please all the people who make Zillertal their ski holiday destination.
