Zell Am See is more of a modern day secret compared to long ago. Back then, the Romans had staked claim here well before tourism made either its financial mark or debut. The Zell Am See area became a market town as early as 1357. In the last forty years, Zell Am See has seen its fair share of change. Here’s an expeditious timeline:
- 1968 – A sports center and spa under construction
- 1973 – The Worldcup Ski competition
- 1976 – New hospital opens
- 1979 – Worldcup Downhill for women
- 1977 – The first commissioning of the one-rope chairlift called “Zeller Bergbahn”
- 1996 – The road tunnel Schmittentunnel opened, relieving holiday traffic
- 2005 – The third ship on Zeller Lake is Christened named “Schmittenhohe”
- 2008 – A World Hockey Tournament took place here
Zell Am See is a lakeside ski resort town in Austria. The population hovers around 10,000 residence, but visitors and tourist easily make those numbers mushroom during the winter and summer seasons. The rabbles of visitants who come for all the outdoor activity the area can muster keep the town steady with jobs, income and lifestyle.
