Avoriaz is a sport center located between Chamonix and Geneve. In the winter time, Avoriaz is best known as a part of Portes du Soleil, the biggest ski center in France, but it is popular also in the summer; as a meeting point for moutain bikers, hikers, climbers and all other fresh air enthusiasts that want to enjoy an active holiday.

Attention: Cars are not allowed in Avoriaz. There is free outdoor parking 300 m from the entrance to Avoriaz center, the transfer from the parking to the center costs 7 €. Indoor parking costs 25 € / week, price includes transfer to the city center and back.

Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, close to the

Portes Du Soliel ski area, the largest ski domain in France with over 650 km of pistes!. This area maintains its alpine feel because there are
no cars or vehicles allowed through the town. Instead a horse drawn sleigh carries tourists back and forth from the snow.

Snowparks
The Portes du Soleil has
9 snowparks at strategic points around the ski area.
All parks feature boxes, tables, wall rides, big air jumps, raised bends, air bags and rails that riders of all levels will be more than happy with!
The resort is well suited to skiers of all levels and abilities, as well as catering extensively for
snowboarders . Avoriaz has brought to Europe a new generation of 100% natural snow playgrounds, «The Stash».
A new concept in
snowparks imported from the Californian resort of North Star, it was developed by Jake Burton himself, famous for his visions on the future of the snowboard. Situated in the middle of a large expanse of un-groomed snow it is ideal for trying out wide turns in powder snow.
The resort has 35 state of the art ski lifts which are able to transport up to 47,000 skiers every hour and the top lift takes you up to a height of 2280 metres. Avoriaz has 68 snow cannons on standby just in case the conditions aren’t favourable
Apres Ski & Night-life
The apres ski scene here is fairly lively and appeals mainly to a younger international audience. There are ten bars including a piano bar and a pub. There are also several live music bars such as "The Place" and the "Wild Horse Saloon" The bowling alley is open until 2am and there are a number of late night clubs such as "Le Yak" and "La Cabane". Restaurants are plentiful, with over 20 in all.
Shopping in Avoriaz is plentiful with over two dozen stores ranging from delicatessens selling local wines and cheeses through to the obligatory ski retail outlets. There is also a perfumery and several souvenir shops.

In Avoriaz there are many sports and culture activities taking place from the 30th of June till the 2nd of September 2012. The City of Children (Le Village des enfants), located in the center of Avoriaz, is offering many opportunities for innovative and playful activities that enable children to discover the mountain world (hiking, mini climbing…).
