Situated right in the middle of the largest interlinked ski area in the world or better known as "Les Trois Vallees" you will find the exclusive resort of Courchevel. It is the place where you could easily find yourself mingling with the rich or famous. The resort is made up of
four different towns all at different altitudes and are named as such, except for
1300 which still calls itself Le Prez.
1550 and
1650 and Courchevel (or
1850) is the main resort.
Courchevel ski holidays offer some of the best skiing in France
As far as accommodation in Courchevel goes, as a general rule of thumb,
it gets more expensive the higher the altitude, with 1850 having some of the most luxurious and equally the priciest establishments. For cheaper alternatives you could try staying at 1650.
Apres Ski & Nightlife
Courchevel 1850 is the liveliest spot, however 1850 underperforms because many of the richer visitors like to party behind closed doors. The best place to start is in Le Jump when the lifts close - it's at the Croisette, at the hub of pistes and lifts at 1850. Most of the other young-ish bars are in the big multi-layered mall behind the Croisette. In Courchevel 1550 the choice is pretty thin. Chanrossa is the pick of the spots, downstairs at the chalet-hotel of the same name, 150m from the bottom of the telecabine.
Courchevel boasts some of the most exclusive restaurants in the Alps and you may well have to reserve a table if you want to experience the sophisticated elegance of its two 2 Michelin starred establishments. If you are looking for cheap and comforting, then why not head down to the Café De La Poste or Le Passage. Or alternatively, how about La Boite A Crepes which serves pizza and mouth-watering savoury and sweet crepes until 11pm.
Courchevel offers you a varied choice of shops and services. There are over 100 shops for you to do your shopping in and to offer you advice. Take advantage of the famous brands available in the many sports and clothing stores. Shop in the food and regional produce stores, to discover local specialities. And don’t forget to take back a souvenir from one of the splendid decor shops in the resort.
WHY WE RECOMMEND IT
Yes, Courchevel is somewhat exclusive, but what it offers is access to some of the best ski slopes that France has to offer. The Apres ski scene might seem at first glance expensive, but if you know where to go, it is still possible to holiday in one of the most stylish resorts in the Alps on a reasonable budget.
