Puy Saint Vincent
Puy Saint Vincent is a village overlooking the Vallouise valley, the gate to the Ecrins National Park, or in French, Parc National des Ecrins) and is one of seven French national parks. It is a mountainous region in the Alps south of Grenoble, west of Briancon and north of Gap which attracts over 750,000 people each year.
Previously, the village was called Puy Saint Romain, the name of the first chapel in the village. In the 15th century, it became Puy Saint Vincent in honour of Vincent Ferrer, a Dominican friar who came to fight against the Waldensian heresy, freedom of preaching and reading the Bible in the vernacular.
Puy Saint Vincent is a year round purpose-designed center split into twp resorts, one at 1400m and the second at 1600. Perfect for good to intermediate skiers and equally fantastic for snowboarders, Puy Saint Vincent is within a two and bit hours drive away. Puy Saint Vincent is perfect for ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays.
Eating out and night life
The majority of the bars and restaurants are in 1600m, although there are a handful - Les Arcades, La Pendine and Le Saint Roch at 1400m
In 1600 you have about a dozen choices. The liveliest is usually Le Tire Bouchon which does Karaoke (and take-out pizza). For late night dancing the Caliente disco is the place to be.
There are plenty of evening activities including snowmobiling, cinema and quad biking and the resort's entertainments team organise extra events every day. A Festival of Laughter is staged every January.
About the ski resort Puy Saint Vincent
Puy Saint Vincent: Ski Holidays Perfected
Puy Saint Vincent is part of the Grande Galaxie Ski area with access to 256 individual pistes. In addition to skiing in Puy Saint Vincent itself (60km of pisted ski runs), the Galaxy Ski Pass will allow you access to the other Grande Galaxie ski resorts.
Puy Saint Vincent has a good range of skiing up to 2750m, giving a healthy 1350m vertical. This means long blues and reds back down to the resort. However, there are a good number of black runs from the top of the lifts beneath La Pendine. There are about 70km /45 miles) of runs with enough variety to keep most people happy for a week.
Beginners have nursery slopes at 1400 and 1600 and snow cover is normally good despite the southerly latitude, thanks to northerly exposure and increasing snowmaking cover.
