About the ski resort Val d'Isere
Val d’Isere : A Ski Holiday on Hallowed Grounds
Val d’Isere ranks among France’s best ski resorts, which has thrived since Mr. Jean-Claude Killy won three Olympics in the later 1960s. The area is now famous because of Killy and his amazing skiing successes. Today, thousands of visitors come annually to challenge themselves in much the same way as Killy did over five decades ago. Val d’Isere takes no time to get to from Italy; it lies on the border of the Vanoise National Park. The highest altitude is 3456 meters with the closest airport 180 km away in Geneva. Buses and shuttles run directly from the airport. For such a small town (of 2000), Val d’Isere has plenty of skiing and snowboarding, over 10,000 hectares combined. There are 154 runs, totaling 300 km. The longest vertical drop is 1930 meters, with most slopes dedicated to intermediate skiers. It’s no wonder these slopes have been frequented by families and couples alike, as there is something for everyone to muster and master.
Val d’Isere Accommodation:
People come here to visit the culture and history just as much as the slopes. There are several apartments to choose from too, but most accommodation is residences and chalets, as many of the buildings in the town are quite old. If four or more friends come together, then prices can range from around 50 euro per night, with a four night (for example) minimum stay. Val d’Isere lodging is reasonable and affordable for all patrons.(Photos copyright: Agence Nuts - Val d'Isere Tourist Office)
