Located in the French Alps
at a staggering 2300 metres, Val Thorens is Europe's highest village which guarantees excellent snow cover however can also lead to freezing temperatures or total wipe-outs. Val Thorens forms
part of the Three Valleys Ski Area with 600 kms of slopes with a total of 93 ski lifts, 3l chairlifts and 52 draglifts. Beginners can enjoy Val Thorens with a good selection of runs scattered through the resort whilst expert skiers are challenged by the big moguls and access to off piste in the Maurienne Valley.
Discover the Val Thorens Snowpark Situated on 70 000m2, the Snowpark is made of tables (jumps), rails and boxes (sliding units) of different sizes. You will also find other modules a bit more unusual such as hips-quarter or the Jump’ Air (shock absorbing stunt man’s mattress) which will allow you to try acrobatic figures in complete safety! You can also attend and even enrol to several contests (freestyle competitions) organised during the winter season.
Apres Ski & Nightlife
Val Thorens is a lively apres ski and nightlife ski resort. There is a fantastic apres ski choice of bars in Val Thorens with live music and open very late. In the evening many of the bars have discos or live music with dancing and drinking until the early hours.
Val Thorens has many mountain restaurants but some of them can be a bit on the pricey side. One which offers inexpensive tasty meals is the Chalet la Moutiere and another popular one is the British Frog and Roast Beef Restaurant which serves good old English grub along with a wide selection of beer. Another more traditional restaurant is the Chalet Les Sonnailes which is very traditional and rustic.
There is a good choice of shops and Val Thorens 1850 is the best place to go with a variety of shops ranging from clothes shops, jewellery shops and children’s fashion, in addition to small specialist shops selling regional products, perfumes and gifts.
