Just above Modane at an altitude of 1550 m, you will find the hamlet of Charmaix, with old stone and wooden houses. It is here that a new resort has emerged: Valfrejus, created in an ideal location for skiing and hiking. Valfrejus has inaugurated a new generation of resorts, built in the middle of a forest perfectly integrated with its surroundings, shops, pedestrianised zones and vast and varied skiing area. Valfréjus ski resort is less than 30 years old although. Intimate, friendly and high in value, the ski area is ideal for beginners, intermediates and families seeking a place that’s easy to reach, well-designed.
Snowboard / Freestyle Skiing- Boarders will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Valfréjus and the high speed new gondola and six-seater chairlift to speed their ascent to the powder fields at the top of the area for great open freeriding terrain. Freestyle skiers and snowboarders have a small terrain park to enjoy with a number of terrain features although no regular half pipe.
Apres Ski & Nightlife
Valfréjus is usually quiet after the lifts close, it’s still very much tied to the traditional French vacation model of being active all day and then relaxing in your apartment in the evening. When the lifts close the Gourmand is usually the liveliest spot. Later on The Javana , Bois Brule and The Tavern are the main places. There are a number of bars and restaurants which serve delicious food for reasonable prices. They have a welcoming atmosphere - just what you need after a long day on the slopes. If you aren’t in the mood for skiing then why not have a go at snowshoeing, tobogganing or paragliding? There is also an ice rink and sports centre.
Valfréjus has a supermarket and several small shops that provide everything you will need for your holiday.
