Alta Badia – Dolomiti Superski – A Side of Living Large On A Ski Holiday Alta Badia in the Dolomiti Superski area of Italy includes six ski villages, all reachable from one another via a web of interlinked lifts. Alta Badia is one of the major players in the Sella Ronda Circuit.
All of the skiing in the Dolomiti Superski zone can be accessed with one Dolomiti Superski pass. Alpe di Pampeago, Alpe di Siusi, Alta Pusteria, Val Gardena, Val di Fassa and Zoldo Alto are just some of the ski resorts with an open door policy for the Dolomiti Superski Pass
From Alta Badia proper—with it’s compact, quant town—there is access to over 530 individual pistes, with 130 runs right in Alta Badia itself. Alta Badia skiing includes 5 expert runs, 30 red runs and 68 blue, all reachable on one or more of the 52 ski lifts. The maximum vertical drop goes for 8.5 km with a maximum altitude of 2778 meters.
The Innsbruck Airport in Austria (150 km away) is the easiest way to get to Alta Badia, where more than skiing and snowboarding awaits: curling, tobogganing, sleigh trips, paragliding, winter hiking, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing (38 km) and ice skating. Additionally, the hotels and services are not limited to saunas, fitness centers, indoor pools and tennis, massages, and spas.
The childcare and child slopes are great places to leave the little ones and practice some nearby challenging slopes for adults.
When the last run is finished, and the winter sun sets in Alta Badia, it is time for après ski. If you still have some energy left at the end of an active day on the slopes, you'll find that Alta Badia has a good selection of après ski bars where you’re guaranteed to meet some of the nicest folks with whom you may share your ski experiences. If instead you prefer to relax sipping a hot chocolate or a nice tea accompanied by a "strudel" or another typical cake, visit one of the tearooms, cafés and pastry-shops distributed all over Alta Badia.
Alta Badia Accommodation: Being part of the Dolomiti Superski Area, Alta Badia has hotels, apartments, chalets and hostels for the affluent and impoverished alike. Social status doesn’t matter when hitting the slopes is so painless. Many of the hotels give a small (5-10%+) discount for staying at least seven days with two or more people. Some of the newer lodges cater to an eco-crowd, with alternative energy sources and eco-practices that help eliminate waste.

Aprica – Alta Valtellina – Magical Ski Holidays On & Off the Slopes Aprica skiing in Italy provides a good mix of on- and off-pistes activities. If 2300 meters of slopes don’t take your breath away, there is ice-skating and climbing. Aprica is only 120 km away from the Orio al Serio airport, so ski weekends are more than doable on a tight schedule. The longest slope lasts 6 km, with 50 km of terrain divided among 22 different ski runs (92 different pistes). Intermediate skiers will have the best of times, and an Alta Valtellina Lift Pass opens up slopes in Caterina, Livigno and Bormio. If skiing downhill is a downer, then the 14 km of cross-country ski routes and 7 km of skate cross country runs keeps the pickiest of patrons elated. Aprica offers free skiing around December 13th every year. You won’t find much snowboarding in Aprica itself, but the Alta Valtellina in general offers some intense snowboarding parks throughout the ski areas (a ski pass is necessary). Aprica skiing turns to other outdoor pursuits in the summer, with a web of hiking trails, horse-riding routes, golf courses, tennis courts, outdoor pools, and everything camping related.
Aprica Accommodation: The accommodation in Aprica hovers around the three star mark, with many of such hotels going for around 300 Euros (per person) for seven days with two or more people. It is possible to get a four star lodge for this same price, with low season prices dropping dramatically. Apartments are often shared and self-catering in all of Italy skiing locales.

Arabba Marmolada - Dolomiti Superski

Arabba Marmolada Dolomiti Superski: First Italian Ski Vacation Possibility What would the world do without skiing in Italy? This hard-to-fathom hypothesis was a reality back in the 1940s until the later 1960s. The Arabba Marmolada Dolomiti Superski wasn’t back then what it is today - one of the most important skiing areas in not only Italy but also Europe.
Most of the Arabba Marmolada Dolomiti Superski skiing takes places at the base of the Marmolada Glacier, often referred to in the local language as the "Queen of the Dolomites". After skiing took off after the World War(s), hundreds of people flocked here to get some needed fun and skiing. Back then, there was no cableway (1957) or drag, chair, cable lift or gondola to transport skiers to the top. Back then, a ski holiday was more work and involved trudging uphill for hours at a time.
In this day and age of easiness and technology, however, the 3342 altitude can be reached in a matter of mere minutes, not hours. The difficult journey is now accessible just 160 km from the nearest airport in Venezia (Venice). Skiers, snowboarders and outdoor lovers alike can get off at the Belluno railway station and grab a direct bus for Arabba Marmolada Dolomiti Superski in no time.
There are 31 total ski runs for 62 km. Since Arabba Marmolada Dolomiti Superski is so high, the longest ski run last for 12 km - what a ride! Of course, the same ski pass gives patrons access to the Dolomiti Superski area.
Arabba Marmolada Dolomiti Superski Accommodation: Much of the lodging here is either apartment or hotel style, though chalets and villas are rentable too.
An Arabba Marmolada Dolomiti Superski hotel typically is three to four star, many boast a built-in sauna or other form of relaxation. The apartments can be self-catering and can accommodate any number of families and friends.
If you love pure adrenalin, then try out the joys of driving a motor sledge. Once mastered, you can progress on to night time guided excursions. Alternatively, the young and old alike are amused when they take to the ice on skates accompanied by the sound of music at the Arabba ice rink.
For the ultimate in relaxation, you can get lie back, soak up the sunshine and get a tan on the terraces of hotels and refuges. And to regain your energy, the Beauty and Wellness centres in the hotels are wonderfully equipped to care for your body and provide the perfect tranquil environment in which to immerse yourself.

Bormio: A Historical Ski Holiday Away Bormio is one of the few ski resorts that offer up some history with skiing. The Romans used Bormio as a place of recuperation and relaxation. The well to do came here to inhale fresh air and lie around in the thermal baths - from cold to boiling hot. Before then, however, traders came through on their traverse from Venice to Switzerland bartering and buying goods that would make them money farther afoot. The town’s center is still as attractive as it was long ago. Presently, Bormio is a sure-snow ski frenzy during the winter months. In the Lombardia region of the Italian Alps, the Italian skiing and snowboarding doesn’t get much better than this. The highest reachable point for this part of the Alps is 3012 meters, not too much farther than the 1225 minimum altitude. There are 14 ski runs, 14 ski lifts, over 50 km of slopes (plus 13 cross-country) just a couple hours (191 km) from Milan, where a direct bus connects to Bormio. The best vertical drop skiers will find here is 1787 meters, but the 120 km of ski terrain is all within reach under one ski pass. The ski passes are priced for the family. An adult can get a ski pass for around 100-150 Euros, while children seven and under get in for free.
Bormio Accommodation: Bormio has every form of lodging under the sun. From Auberges to chalets, villas, bed and breakfast and three to four star hotels and self-catering apartments, the options are endless. For a little bit more money, skiers can let an apartment or hotel just minutes from the slopes. Prices for Bormio hotels tend to be lower when farther from the slopes. Many of the hotels have their own pools, spas and thermal waters enticing skiers after a long day of skiing and snowboarding.

One ski pass for six days (for around 250 Euros) gives access to Zermatt in Switzerland too, making the grand total more than double - 350 km of skiing terrain (and the cost isn’t much more than paying for the general Breuil- Cervinia Valtornenche ski pass). Skiing in Breuil- Cervinia Valtornenche takes place in both Italy and Switzerland, near the famous Matterhorn (4478 m). However, the highest reachable slope lies at 3480 meters, just 1000 meters below. Snowboarding in Breuil- Cervinia Valtornenche gives boarders a place in history. That’s because the snowpark is the highest in Europe, at 3000 meters. There are over 40000 square meters of rideable snow, and plenty of room for everyone. The jumps, rails, kickers and famous "Dog house" keep boarders pumped on adrenaline and ready for more.
Breuil- Cervinia Valtornenche Accommodation: Accommodation in Breuil- Cervinia Valtornenche is so versatile that everyone can afford to stay here. The hotels offer great discounts off-season, with apartments and residences (building with many apartments) to suit every budget. Don’t worry about the flailing dollar, the undulating pound or flexible Euro, with 10% - 30% off, it won’t put a cringe on the pocketbook.

Cortina d’Ampezzo Dolomiti Superski: A Picturesque Ski Holiday In Two Countries Cortina d’Ampezzo - Dolomiti Superski is one of the most nestled resorts in all of Italy, with an old time feel of Arabba Marmolada but with a background of forests and the red rocky mountains; it’s no wonder skiers love the ambiance of lodging here. Cortina d’Ampezzo - Dolomiti Superski shares the border with Austria, a picturesque area worth of several famous Hollywood movies. The skiing is just as amiable too. There are 79 individual ski runs all part of a total of 115 km, with the longest being 7 km. The highest altitude is a bit low for both Austria and Italy, reaching only 2930 meters. Snow, however, is always expected during the long winters, where 95% of the area can be shot with artificial snow should Mother Nature not bring powder on time. Of course the name gives it away that the ski resorts are interconnected under one ski pass with the entire Dolomiti Superski area - that’s an impressive 1220 km of slopes. In addition, there is 75 km of cross-country skiing available.
Cortina d’Ampezzo - Dolomiti Superski Accommodation: There are plenty of hotels in the area, the nicest being a five-star luxury hotel just minutes from the town center. It’s near the golf club too. There are other more economical hotels available sporadically placed throughout the valleys. It’s possible to find lodging in either Italy or Austria, both being comparable in price and value. Apartments are a bit harder to find, though they are available, especially if the family is coming along.

Jochtal Skikarussel – Ski Vacations For the Family With Children Jochtal Skikarussel is a family geared, purpose resort with all the highlights of an Italian family skiing holiday. The impressive maximum altitude gain here is 2100 meters, but the kids are not expected to conquer these sorts of slopes. The beginning slopes, in fact, have the most to offer with over 10 km of blue runs, with five intertwining blues in total. Additionally, the child’s slope, children’s park, child carpet lift make Jochtal Skikarussel one of the best child-friendly resorts in the area. The expert runs are more minimalist, with only three to choose from; a total of 4.7 km of black runs, however, await the daring expert of the family. The red runs are the most limited at only two, but there is over 7 km of them (nearly ¾ of the beginner runs). Though the Jochtal Skikarussel skiing sounds limiting, there are plenty of longer runs to practice on. Just over the hillocks lie Gitschberg AG, Plose AG and Dolomiti Superski skiing areas, all for the taking under one ski pass. Snowboarders will need a ski pass to go snowboarding at the other ski areas. Other activities include ice-skating and guide-led winter hiking.
Jochtal Skikarussel Accommodation:Some of the hotels in the area advertise themselves as a spa as well. To see “Hotel & Spa” in the title is nothing new in Jochtal Skikarussel Italy. Other smaller three-star hotels offer the basic amenities with a little plush. The price difference between the three and four-star hotels are worth paying for the luxury.

La Thuile – Espace San Bernardo – Bordering Ski Vacations La Thuile – Espace San Bernardo lies in the Aosta Valley, a place where the skiing is shared by France and Switzerland. Now that the borders were removed several years ago, it is possible to ski in all three countries on any given day—a ski pass gives skiers and borders their money’s worth with La Rosiere in France. The La Thuile – Espace San Bernardo in Italy, however, has a varying history of Celt and Roman conquerors, but today the resort looks more purpose built than historic.
Nevertheless, it is possible to happen upon a lost relic or fallen column now and again. The highest altitude here reaches 2641 meters, with 74 total ski runs covering almost 150 km (when combined with the other skiable resorts). The longest run, no doubt, last for 11 km, with drops near 1200 meters. The 35 km of cross-country trails and an equal amount of skate cross country runs, when combined with snow tubing, heli-skiing (legal only in Italy), winter hiking and free style snowboarding park, make La Thuile – Espace San Bernardo an unbeatable ski holiday for anyone remotely interested in winter sports.
A campground and nearly 20 restaurants, bars and shops makes mingling après ski nothing short of fun.
La Thuile – Espace San Bernardo Accommodation: The hotels in the La Thuile – Espace San Bernardo are a little more expensive than other Italian run resorts, but the doorstep skiing and facilities make the loftier prices worth it. Residences, apartments, chateau and other lodges can cost lest than other luxury hotels, but most are set in lovely wooded areas.

Livigno – The No Tax Ski Holiday Livigno in Italy used to be such a hard place to live and raise a family. Way back then in the 1800s, Italy gave special tax breaks to Livigno residents so that they would continue to live and work there. Secretly, however, they were also kept there to keep an eye on the boarders in case of intrusion of neighboring countries. Today, Livigno still enjoys the same tax-free status, but residents do pay a small income tax to the government. Visitors to the area, then, enjoy a one-of-a-kind tax-free ski vacation. The first people to live here were shepherds and farmers. Today, ski business owners and après ski venues bring it quite a lot of money to the area. The easiest way to get to Livigno to enjoy some Italian skiing is through Milan, about 230 km off. The highest altitude is 3000 meters with a maximum vertical drop of just over 1000 meters. The ski runs number just over 75 with a 3.5 km descent and 115 km of ski runs in all. Night skiing makes it possible to ski under a blanket of beaming lights. The snowboarding in and around Livigno can’t be beat, with two parks at Mottolino and Carosello. The halfpipe, fun park, snowboard cross and jumps all offer a bruising challenge.
Livigno Accommodation: Livigno’s lodges offer everything from swank hotels to summer camping. The three star hotels in the area dominate where to stay, but the four star suites have lots of luxury to offer. Residences, apartments and even Sport hotels offer everything from self-catering to half-boards, solariums, saunas to spas.

46.226260
Madonna di Campiglio – Ski Vacations For All Walks of Life Madonna di Campiglio used to be for the rich, powerful and noble just over 100 years ago. Boy, how times have changed! Today, the rich and powerful still visit here, but the resort opens its arms to everyone, no matter of financial status or power. The resort was sought after back then (as it is today) because of the backdrop of the toothy Brenta Dolomites and nearby glaciers of Presanella and Adamello. There are limestone walls jutting in contrasts in the distance too. Madonna di Campiglio skiing offers some of the largest and longest slopes in Western Europe. Madonna di Campiglio, Marilleva and Folgarida come under one ski pass for one price. The maximum skiable altitude lies at 2504 meters, with a maximum vertical drop of 585 meters; it’s the longest run at 3.6 km. There are 60 km of skiing and snowboarding spread out over 36 different ski runs. Madonna di Campiglio offers with the ski holiday a unique nature experience, with stables holding animals, national parks all around and nature trails for snow (and summer) hiking. Other summer outings include golf, Nordic walking, mountaineering, paragliding, mountain biking and fishing.
Madonna di Campiglio Accommodation: Though luxury was at its pique in the later 1800s and early 1900s, Madonna di Campiglio lodging still holds onto a lavishness that will never disappear. There are seemingly more four-star hotels in Madonna di Campiglio than any other Italian ski resort. Many, too, offer prices that are worth a seven-day stay, for families and couples alike. Hotels top the list, but chalets and apartments can be let (rented) during the holiday season.

The views from the top slopes - the highest reaching 2350 meters - is as breathtaking as from below. The view from Passo Rolle, moreover, is similarly beautiful, with a much longer ski season than many other Italian ski resorts. Downhill skiers, snowboarders and cross-country skiers all the same will have a marvelous time just standing agape at the beauty of the whole San Martino di Castrozza - Dolomiti Superski skiing area. The 35 ski runs shouldn’t hold anyone back, as the 60 km of slopes (the longest being 3 km) is enough to keep the adrenaline pumping. The drop is almost 1000 meters long too. The outdoors is the place to be in San Martino di Castrozza - Dolomiti Superski area, with every activity from snow shoeing, guided tours, ice climbing, ski alpinism to swimming, ice skating, bowling, cinema and piano bars. Santa Caterina Valfurva
Santa Caterina – Quintessential Italy Ski Holidays Santa Caterina lies just above Bormio in the Valfurva Valley in Italy. In Lombardy and part of the Alta Valtellina Ski area, Santa Caterina gives access to the famed Bormio and Livigno ski resorts. The highest ski lifts takes skiers just above 2700 meters with the center of town sitting at just over 1700 meters. There was recently a new lift system installed with a gondola heading up to Sobretta at 2775 meters. Additionally, a chairlift goes to the Valle dell’Alpe to Sobretta, so getting to the top in a hurry is never a challenge. For such a tranquil place, there are 35 km of ski runs, with the longest slope careening down the mountainside for 3.7 km. The most vertical one can lose in Santa Caterina while skiing is 982 meters. There are two blue runs going for one kilometer each; 12 red runs going for 27 km and 2 black traveling for just over 6 km. Snowboarding is a bit limited to free riding and taking lessons with a snowboarding instructor; there is no terrain park for snowboarders unfortunately. Santa Caterina Accommodation: Most hotels and other lodging that offers some nice ski vacation deals in Santa Caterina are three stars. Most skiers who come as a couple or in a group of four will have the best chances at finding reasonably priced rooms, especially if staying for seven or more days. Stays near and in the Stelvio National Park are always the epitome of an Italian ski vacation getaway.

Tonale (Presena Glacier) – Ponte di Legno – Ski Vacations on Ice Tonale or Passo Tonale is a resort between the two areas of Trentino and Lombardy in Italy. The Presena Glacier—as of recently this may change—offers skiing through the winter and the summer. The minimum altitude is 1250 meters with the highest point lying just above 3000 meters. Forty slopes traveling 100 km in all makes the trip from Bolzano (airport) just 100 km away all worth it. An amazing 360 km of ski slopes awaits those buying an inclusive ski pass. Snowboarding venues includes a half pipe, fun park and several jumps. Cross-country skiing goes on for nearly 25 km with night skiing made possible by beaming stadium lamps.

Val Gardena Alpe di Siusi - Dolomiti Superski
11.724815
46.559273
Val Gardena – Ski Vacations With Natural Splendor Val Gardena is often rated as beautiful as Cortina. Val Gardena, however, must attribute its inherent beauty to the Dolomiti topography just off in the distance. The Gruppo Sella limestone rock with itsy-bitsy villages dotting the sides gives a sense of eternal Italian bliss. The Sassolungo, Cir and Sciliar also add to the extraterrestrial air of the place. Val Gardena and the area of the Alpe di Siusi are obtainable without ever removing skis.
There are 90 ski runs in all, with one slope lasting for more than 10 kilometers. The maximum vertical lost in Val Gardena while skiing is nearly 1200 meters, with 175 km of slopes interconnecting each and every way.
The Dolomiti Superski Pass gives access to Arraba, Badia, Fassa and Alta, approaching 1220 km of ski slopes—more than enough for a ski-weekend, -week or even –season. Val Gardena lies closer to Bolzano, only 40 km away, so ski forays that last a day or two are well worth the effort. Cross-country skiers get on great in Val Gardena with 115 km of runs. Moreover, snowboarders have plenty of snow parks, free-style areas, half pipes, fun parks and cross.
The list of possible adventure for one ski holiday—from climbing parks to mountaineering, from tobogganing to ice skating, from winter hiking to hot springs—to all appearances never ends.
Val Gardena (Alpe di Siusi) Accommodation: Three and four star hotels are the entire rave in Val Gardena. The reason is simple—the hotels offer some great advantages and comforts just minutes from all those slopes. Lodging here can get pricey, but there are deals to be had for those willing to book early via the internet and coming with at least two or more friends. The hotels and even apartments are nestled in nature, so the setting is always dreamy with a slight Christmassy feeling.
