Your ski holidays in Folgarida Val di Sole
Val di Sole is also known as the water realm, which is a predominant element cascading throughout this area. The main place of interest is the valley floor, where the famous "Fiume Noce" river travels along its length, a paradise for water sports lovers. In the higher elevations sit the wonderful mountain lakes, such as Rotondo Lake, Corvo Lake, Marmot Lake and many others that owe their existance to the glacier movements thousands of years ago.
In the "Fiume Noce" river and the smaller streams you can also fish for several trout species, such as the brook and rainbow trout. Fishing licences are also required in order to fish, as well as a permit for foreign visitors, (information can be obtained at the tourist offices in the valley). In all there are 100 lakes in Val di Sole which means one can easily choose a lake a day, among fields and glaciers.
With the Stelvio National Park to the North and the Adamello Brenta Park to the south, more than 20,000 hectares of the Val Di Sole territory is a protected nature area, guaranteeing a truly pristine world for all visitors. Visit the Stelvio National Park's website for further information and you can also check out the Adamello Brenta Nature Park.
Val di Sole is a perfect place for excursions and alpine itineraries with an infinite variety of landscapes and mountains that vary from an altitude of 700 m to 3700 m. There are three main mountain ranges that are part of the valley: the Ortless-Cevedale to the north, the Adamello-Presanella to the west and the Brenta Dolomities to the south-west. All trails have been blazed in red and white and the trail marker with the corresponding number is in black.
Nordic walking is the latest trend in power walking through the mountains that is quickly conquering the world. It is a new, revolutionary and scientific method of exercising among natural surroundings: Nordic walking is defined as fitness walking with specially designed poles. The result is a full body workout that uses 90% of the body's total muscle mass, without an excessive impact on the joints of the legs and feet, therefore reducing physical exertion by 30% and producing up to 46% increase in energy consumption compared to regular jogging. In Val di Sole you can find 4 areas dedicated to this sport, 250km of trails and routes, all marked, and instructors available to accompany you on your excursions.
The numerous mountain huts in Val di Sole usually remain open from June 20th to September 20th but these dates are subject to change due to the hut's location and weather conditions. It is best to call to find out the exact opening dates before starting off on your excursion.
