Located amidst the stunning
Slovenian scenery,
Bled is a lakeside resort with close proximity to 3 ski areas. Straza is the nearest, being just above the town ,with
Kobla and
Vogel that have a greater variety of terrain being about 30 minutes’ drive away. These four areas participate in a joint lift pass system which gives Bled ski holidays visitor’s access to a combined total of 88 kms of slopes serviced by 22 lifts. The areas are linked by a free bus service for pass holders.
Bled itself has 3 ski runs, one beginner, one intermediate and one advanced, which are accessed by 2 ski lifts which are able to uplift 4,150 skiers per hour.
Due to its relatively low altitude, snow cover at Bled can be a little erratic, but their snow making facilities help solve this problem. Straza, is only minutes away from the centre of Bled and is the most suitable for beginners, being at a height of 600 metres. It has a ski school here and also offers night skiing. However, anyone above beginner level would struggle to spend more than a day here. Kobla and Vogel offer the best variety of slopes with runs catering for all skiing abilities. Although black runs are limited, the ones in place do offer sufficient challenge to maintain interest. Both have 35 kms of trails to offer and snow cover is better too. There is also considerable cross country skiing in the area. The facilities are somewhat limited for snowboarders, although on the upside they can access most of the slopes by cable car or chair lift.
Apres Ski & Nightlife
There is a good choice of bars and restaurants and pizzerias in Bled catering for all tastes. The Gostilna Pizzeria & Brewery Gala In, which is located just outside Lesce is a great complex which is very popular with visitors who enjoy washing down some great pub food or pizza with the local "Gala In" beer. During the evening there are a few places with live music and a discotheque. Other pastimes include listening to brass band concerts.
For those who love to shop there are many small stores and malls as well as smaller specialist shops selling handicrafts and souvenirs.
WHAT'S ON
The most famous of Bled´s events is the "Bled Days". This happens on the 4th weekend of July each year.It is a beautiful sight with floating lights on the lake and fireworks to set the scene, as well as the "Home and Art Craft Fair" to see and various concerts on the Bled promenade to enjoy. On New year´s Day, you can listen to classical music at the traditional New year´s Day Gala Concert at the Festival Hall - Easter Sunday, however is the day for non-other than the Easter Concert.
Within the setting of the "Merry December" festivities, you can buy gifts at the St. Nicholas Fair and the Christmas/New year Fair. Amongst numerous other events, one of the more interesting ones is "The Legend of the Sunken Bell" which happens on Christmas Day - and you must not forget to embark on a romantic stroll around the lake with flickering fire torches. It was for the first time in the year 1999 that we organized Rikli´s sports days in the beginning of July - this included an expedition to Straža following "the Rikli method" and various sporting tournaments.
