Nestled in the beautiful Zgornjesavska valley in the North West corner of Slovenia lays the ski resort of Kranjska Gora. Almost surrounding the town are the majestic peaks of the Julian Alps and the Karavanke mountains. The town enjoys a wonderful alpine climate with short summers and long snow filled winters. The resort itself is geared mainly towards the novice and out of 21 ski runs, 13 of these are for beginners. The other 8 ski runs are shared equally between intermediate and expert. So there are still runs that will suit every level of skier. The skiing is at a reasonably low altitude with the highest point being at 1210 metres. However, you don't have to worry about insufficient snow cover because the resort has snow cover machines on most of the ski runs so you are guaranteed snow throughout the entire ski season.
There are 19 ski lifts at the resort capable of uplifting 16,000 snowboarders/skiers per hour. The ski runs are interlinked by a system of ski tows and chairlifts. If you like to ski off piste, then Kranjska Gora offers anything from gentle meanderings down the Kravanke Mountains to death defying extreme skiing down the ridges of the Julian Alps.

About the village
The area offers a good selection of accommodation. Kranjska Gora itself also has a wide range of hotels which are mainly made up of 3 and 4 star establishments, but if you are looking for something a little more upmarket, then the luxurious Hotel Kompass in Kranjska Gora is a great place to stay.
In terms of bars and restaurants, Kranjska Gora is not as brash and "in your face" as some of the Austrian or Swiss resorts, but what it offers is a sophisticated alternative. Bars like the "Cocktail Club" and the "Manhattan bar" which can both to be found at the Grand Hotel are more refined alternatives to the music bars of the livelier resorts. There are also two casinos in the area if you fancy a little flutter.
