The Vogel Ski Center lies high above the magnificent Lake Bohinj, in the heart of Triglav National Park which is a protected area. The beginnings of skiing date back in 1964. The cable car was renovated in 2001 and has the capacity of 950 persons per hour. From the foot of the mountain (nor far from Lake Bohinj) you are lifted to the altitude of 1535m above sea level, from where you can enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the Triglav mountain range, all the way to the Kamnik Alps.
Bohinj is a valley that stretches from Soteska to Ukanc. On the south side, it is enclosed by the Lower Bohinj Mountains, which rise to 2.000 meters, and on the north by the Triglav mountain range with Mount Triglav, Slovenia`s highest mountain (2864 m).
Bohinj is one of the most beautiful places in the heart of the Julian Alps and in Triglav National Park.
The natural beauty of high mountains, green forests, and beautiful mountain pastures and meadows, the cultural and historical monuments, and the friendly villages and towns with their hotels, restaurants, inns, and private rooms guarantee visitors a pleasant stay in Bohinj.
Bohinj is an ideal starting point for day trips, for walks on the trails that run throughout the valley, and for mountaineering and climbing tours and offers ideal options and opportunities for rest and relaxation in all seasons. During the summer the most beautiful pearl of the valley, Lake Bohinj, invites bathers, and with the Sava Bohinjka River, kayakers and fishermen as well.
Eating out
Slovenia’s cuisine is interesting and diverse and Bohinj has many a restaurant, bar or café to trial it out for yourself. Some of the areas’ more interesting specialities are Bohinj’s cheese, Žganci (corn mush) with sauerkraut and sour or sweet milk, Bohinj’s honey and mead, minced lard, potica, fish dishes and its home made brandy and herbal beverages.
Nightlife
When coming to Bohinj, you’re coming for its natural, outstanding beauty; to tire yourself out by its vast array of activities (or not if you’ve simply come to relax, unwind and let go) and not to a clubbers paradise. There are however, a small number of places in which to indulge in a kuhano vino (mulled wine) or a pint. The Paviljon and Allo Allo bars are pretty lively in the evenings with a mixed crowd and plenty of good music to get you going until the late evening. Why not check out Bohinj In Your Pocket. A small but handy guide book packed with all the latest information about the area, night life, restaurants, tours, trips and much, more more!
About the ski resort Vogel - Bohinj
Winter
Bohinj is certainly impressive when it comes to looking at its winter menu. Apart from the normal Alpine Skiing, ice climbing, winter hiking and ice-skating, it also offers up some slightly more interesting options such as winter mountain biking, skijoring, sleigh rides, snow rafting, winter photo hunting and animal watching/hunting.
