Adelboden – Frutigen – Lenk – Swiss Ski Holidays Just Can’t Be Beat Adelboden – Frutigen – Lenk ski area (sometimes referred to as the Adelboden-Lenk Ski area) is about as Swiss as a Swiss resort can be—quaint, charming with picture-perfect slopes and modern interlinked skiing. If any European country knows quality (especially slope standards), of course, it is Switzerland. In any case, the easiest way by plane to get to Adelboden – Frutigen – Lenk is through Zurich, just less than 200 km away. There is both a bus from the airport and a train station 16 km away in Frutigen. Adelboden – Frutigen – Lenk is frequented by visitors for a number of reasons. The major motive is the 105 ski runs encircling each other for 185 km. The longest slope runs for 7 km, dropping skiers off nearly 1347 vertical feet lower. The lowest skiers and boarders can hit the powder at is 1000 meters, with the resort and hotels sitting at 1350 meters. The highest lift drops skiers off at 3000 meters. Over half of Adelboden – Frutigen – Lenk can be covered in machine-made flakes, with night skiing being almost as popular as its day time counterpart. The ski pistes are made up of diversified levels: Blues travel for 80 km over 40 different runs; reds shoot for 88 km over 50 various runs; and blacks hurtle over 17 km for 14 disparate runs—the best can take a challenge in the World Cup Chuenisbergli black piste. Snowboarding is extreme in Adelboden – Frutigen – Lenk with a half pipe, fun park, cross and plenty of jumps. The Engstligenalp is a natural board park; it is here that professionals spend most of their time.
Adelboden – Frutigen – Lenk Accommodation: Since most of the pistes face north, it’s easy to get into nature and sunshine near the hotels. Some offer sweet views of the Adelboden mountains in the distance, while others are closer to the village center. Additionally, some of the lodges have been passed down through several generations, insuring tradition, character and quality.

Andermatt, Hospental and Realp in the Gotthard holiday region have lots to offer. In winter the "Ursern Valley" becomes a huge ski arena. On the Gemsstock there is one of the very first Alpine runs created especially for carvers and the Paradeberg near Andermatt, scene of a series of exciting events, has long been a "secret" among skiers & snowboarders. If you are more of a cross-country skier you will find 20 km of well prepared runs between Andermatt and Realp. And if you prefer something altogether less strenuous you should try a gentle winter hike or go sledging on the Natschen.

Our homo sapiens ancestors walked around barefoot. Then, without breaking the evolutionary chain. Surfers came on the scene with a snowboard stuck to their feet. Nomads on the hunt for a different type of prey: chasing clouds of powder snow between heaven and earth, a truly breathtaking experience. Here, at an altitude of 2,500 metres, you are closer to paradise, a skiing paradise, of course. What's on the menu? Skiing, snowboarding, carving, sleding, snowshoes… or simply relaxes in a lounge chair, lazing around sipping a cocktail.
Built of the sit of ancient pastures, the village of Anzere faces due south. Perched on a plateau, in the heart of the swiss Alps, the village enjoys a mediterranean microclimate. In the region, one can find primitive rural structures and altitude pasture dwellings, made of wood and stone. The pedestians only Village Square is the centre of village life. During the winter, once a week, hot wine prepared in a large kettle, a welcome drink for all visitors. It is a good opportunity to socialise and get to know others. Constructed in 1965, the development of ANZERE was based on well-studied planning and designed layout. The heart of the resort is called ANZERE VILLAGE is a pedestrian zone, a rather nouvel concept dating back to the 60s. Large wooden chalets surrounding a pedestrian square. A choice of shops, boutiques in a continuous gallery, with restaurants, café terraces, and playground for children with public benches. Visitors will appreciate this car free open space, safe for children and favoured by parents. ANZERE is a medium size resort, cosy and friendly. The style of constructions blends well with the mountain environment. Situated on a high plateau facing south, ANZERE overlooking down the Rhone Valley, with a sweeping panoramic view of the Valaisan Alps where 12 peaks over 4000 m. high, extending from Bitschhorn to Mont-Blanc.

Arosa

46.782240
Arosa – Ski Vacations That Began Long Ago Swiss ski resort Arosa has been around for quite a long time, with the first ski club starting in 1903 and the earliest ski school by 1933. Arosa is in Grisons and is housed under the Top Cart Ski Area, a linked lift system that rivals the best in any country. The altitude in and around Arosa begins at 1739 meters with a max height of 2653 meters, though the Arosa resort lies just at 1800 meters. There are 60 km and 17 ski runs to choose from. The longest slope only runs for 4 km, but gaining some speed is possible with a drop of just over 900 meters. The nearest airport lies in Zurich around 150 km away. If skiers and boarders come earlier or later in the season, Arosa can cover over 50% of it’s skiing and snowboarding terrain with 120 snow cannons. The lines are never too queued up with 16 full-time ski lifts. Getting off the slopes onto trails takes cross-country skiers to 14 km of trails and 12 km of skate cross-country trails. Night skiing takes place seven nights a week. Snowboarding in Switzerland, and Arosa specifically, has always lives up to its hype. The half pipe, Snow Drop fun park and tons of jumps keeps boarders content in Arosa.
Arosa Accommodation: Three and four-star hotels dot the wintry landscape and reflect the outdoorsy charm that is Arosa’s insignia. Some hotels and lodges refer themselves as "sporthotels", meaning they have après ski amenities. Arosa apartments can house small or large groups, offering equidistant access to both the center of town and the slopes.

Crans Montana – Everything Rolled Into One Swiss Ski Holidays Crans and Montana are separately known as two towns in Switzerland in Valais. Crans Montana, however, is known as a conglomerate ski resort that united in the 1960s in order to be more appealing (in number of slopes) and offer some unique Swiss skiing opportunities. Today, Crans Montana offers something for everyone who make it part of their ski vacation: 34 cable, drag and chair and gondola lifts can shuffle nearly 40000 skiers and boarders per hour over 140 km of ski runs. Crans Montana is all-inclusive, meaning patrons can get everything they need on location (plus there are no other linked resorts). The most accessible airport for international flights is Geneva, less than 200 km away. When visitors arrive, they are welcome to 41 crisscrossing slopes of all levels—17 blues, 20 reds and 4 blacks. The longest ski run goes for 12 km, capable of causing altitude sickness (not likely really) at 1500 meters. Crans Montana shows its support for snowboarding with the gondolas capable of getting boarders to their favorite jumps, boxes, c-rails, wall rides and, yes, the 12 km long piste. Additionally, there are 35 km of cross-country skiing, all the children parks and lifts, après skiing venues like discos, bars/pubs and restaurants, and plenty of off-piste recreation and lazy fun. Crans Montana has truly figured out the perfect skiing holiday for all its local and international visitors.
Crans Montana Accommodation: Two-, three-, and four-star hotels await the big and small budget traveler. Many hotels offer onsite restaurants and close entry to the golf course, the town center or the slopes. Other lodges and apartments are used seeing both crowds and couples looking for a place to stay, with seven days stays given the best deals. The right place includes sunshine, a wooded view and doorstep lift access.

Davos Klosters

46.876970
Davos – Klosters – High and Large Ski Holidays Davos ski resort in Switzerland is often referred synonymously with Klosters, or Davos Klosters ski resort. The main reason is the enclosed skiing within the surrounding mountains. As part of this, Davos and Klosters are linked with Jakobshorn and Parsenn, Madrisa, Rinerhorn and Pischa—five main skiing areas circumnavigating the town of Davos. When added together, the 300 km of Swiss skiing holds the record as Switzerland’s loftiest and largest ski resort. In fact, the Parsenn funicular goes as high as 2750 meters to Weissfluhjoch; the lowest skiing takes place at 1124 meters and the highest at 2844 meters—skiing here is suited to all levels. Beginners have more than 20 slopes to practice on; intermediates have the double of the aforementioned to really improve on, and, advanced skiers have 22 runs to truly hone their skills. There are 26 separate lifts taking skiers and boarders to the north, south and west facing slopes. The longest ski run last just over 12 km, a drop of over 1700 meters! Snowboarders are not left sitting in the resort either. They have access to three separate board parks, with half pipes and fun parks. Cross-country skiers have over 75 km of trails to choose from, with over half of that dedicated to skate cross-country. Skiing and snowboarding lasts from late November to early May, with several festivals and holiday celebrations seemingly taking place every week.
Davos Accommodation: The accommodation within Davos has something for every holidaymaker, e.i., if families or older folks want quiet nights, there are three- and four-star hotels catering to that crowd. If younger souls need a bar with music attached to the lodge, there is that too. From nestled chalets to mega hotels and everything between, Davos has the best deals for those staying for a week or more. (Photos copyright: TB Davos Klosters)

Gstaad Mountain Rides – Ski Holidays With Amusement in Mind Gstaad Mountain Rides evokes a sense of ultimate fun in the mountains. Gstaad Mountain Rides and Glacier 3000 give those with the pre-paid lift pass access to 250 different ski runs. The altitude variation of 1000 meters to 3000 meters is all easily reachable with the 62 lifts—27 drag, 18 chair, 14 cable and 2 gondolas. The slope dissection reveals blues get most of the skiing terrain here in Gstaad Mountain Rides with 110 km, while intermediates and experts get 101 and 39 km respectively. In Gstaad Mountain Rides alone, skiers get 100 ski runs and one 10 km slope that dives down for over 2000 meters. Snowboarding gets no less attention with half pipes, fun parks, jumps, slides, and boxens all found in White Bull in Rinderberg, Vanille Noir in Saanerslochgrat, Monster Park in Glacier 3000 and Snowpark in La Braye. The snowy season is quite long and last from mid October to the beginning of May. Gstaad Mountain Rides doesn’t usually have to make it’s own snow, but if it is necessary, they can add to mother nature with another 20% of snow coverage. Night skiing, curling, tobogganing, sleigh rides, ice skating, snow hiking, heli-skiing, and all sorts of relaxing spa and massage treatments await those who truly need an all-in-one ski vacation. Hundreds of bars, restaurants and discos give ample opportunity for late night depravity.
Gstaad Mountain Rides Accommodation: Most hotels in the Gstaad Mountain Rides ski zones and Glacier 3000 areas fluctuate closely to the three- and four-star grade. Three- and four-star lodging in Switzerland, however, is never shabby or underdone. Chalets and apartments are more on the fringes of town, but all the “sport,” “spa,” and “special” hotels dot the landscape awaiting new guests checking in.

Jungfrau - Grindelwald, Mürren and Interlaken- Ski Holidays With So Much The Jungfrau - Grindelwald, Mürren and Interlaken ski areas and resorts are often considered as not only one of Europe’s most historic skiing areas, but also one of its most stunning and photogenic—as it so happens, “Interlaken” means “between the lakes”. Jungfrau - Grindelwald, Mürren and Interlaken skiing redefines the boundaries of good and great skiing—of course, the latter class is what is found here in the Jungfrau region of Switzerland—this not only includes Grindelwald, Mürren and Interlaken but also Wengen. In Grindelwald (Berne), an English fellow named Gerald Fox back in the early 1880s strapped his skis on inside his bedroom, pranced out through the front bar and hit the slopes. Since then, numerous skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts followed, of course lacing up boots and strapping on skis and boards out-of-doors. Jungfrau - Grindelwald, Mürren and Interlaken and all the Jungfrau Top Ski Area has access to 213 km of slopes. There are around 20 ski lifts in Grindelwald alone capable of handling 40000+ skiers and boarders per hour, so queues never get long and head up the mountain quickly. Going from the one resort to the next, however, sometimes requires a small rail or coach ride. Grindelwald to Mürren, for instance, necessitates jumping on transport, as Mürren is not lift linked. There are 81 total slopes and one maximum vertical drop of nearly 2200 meters over 16 km. The blue runs have 70 km, the red runs 105 km and the black runs 19 km. If it feels as if intermediates get unfair and better treatment, it’s just that most skiers are neither expert nor beginners but somewhere between. One ski pass gives total access to the entire Jungfrau region, with the Bern airport only 70 km away and the railway dropping skiers and snowboarders off at any one of three onsite train stops.
Jungfrau - Grindelwald, Murren and Interlaken Accommodation: Two- to five-star hotels await those who cannot wait to hit the slopes. The hotels and apartments in the Jungfrau area of Switzerland have so much to offer, it is hard to list all the available amenities here. Panoramic mountain views, lakeside cottages and chalets and independent lodges and hostels are just a smidgen of the top choices. Some of the accommodation offer spa and massage services while others have onsite bars, discos, restaurants and activities; some have it all. Lake Lodges, Backpacker hotels, and family centered chalets are just the tip of the glacier in Jungfrau.
Jungfrau Interlaken : A Ski Vacation Between The Lakes
Up in the canton of Bern in Switzerland lies one of the most attractive skiing destinations in Europe - Interlaken - the name a derivative of inter lacus or "between the lakes", referring to the Thun and Brienz Lakes on either side of the town. Interlaken is quite small, but tourist, skiers, backpackers and hikers tramp through to take in the beautiful scenery, especially the jumbo Jungfrau at 4158 meters in the distance. The small town surprisingly has two funicular railways and two railway stations. Interlaken is part of The Jungfrau Top Ski Region, encompassing over 160 km of trails. The median ski run length is six to twelve kilometers, offering a different ski area for each day of the week, accessible with the Jungfrau Sportpass. Beginners have 30%, intermediates have 50% and advanced have 20% of the ski slopes. The skiing is unsurpassed and the beauty is unforgiving. The summer brings a plethora of water sport enthusiast.
Interlaken Accommodation: Interlaken hotels consistently receive good reviews in favor of the cleanliness of the accommodation, the accessibility of the slopes and the views of the surrounding scenery. Any one of the Interlaken lodges is a great place to spend the evening, though with luxury comes, of course, a Swiss price. Some reasonable prices emerge come low season.
Jungfrau Wengen: An Active and Unbeatable Ski Holiday The Jungfrau Region in Switzerland is renowned for its varying levels of ski slopes and nature. A Wengen ski vacation in the Jungfrau region yields 100 km of groomed pistes. Wengen is an enjoyable place for beginners, as there are roughly 75 ski teachers teaching in all the European languages. Wengen is a treat for families because of kindergarten classes that can last a half to a full day - getting away from the kids has never been so easy and trustworthy. Wengen hotels are equipped with everything from billiards to bowling alleys, saunas to solariums. When tired of downhill, there are nearly 20 km of cross country skiing routes near Lauterbrunnen. Heli-skiing or simple helicopter sightseeing trips are affordable. Moreover, indoor swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts keep habitués busy while others hit the outdoor escarpments. In summer, Wengen is a hiker’s dream with over 500 km of marked hiking trails; there are folklore shows, outdoor theatres, markets and culture to spare. Young and elderly alike can enjoy a week or two in Wengen.
Wengen Accommodation: Wengen has a wealth of dormitories for snowboarders, alpine hotels for families, apartments for friends, and full-board hotels for everyone in between. Additionally, there are plenty of beds to go around during high and low season, with pricing equivalent to other Swiss ski resorts.

Saas-Fee and Saastal : A Care-Free, Car-Free Ski Vacation Saas Fee and Saastal in Switzerland are the epitome of picturesque ski resorts. For starters, Saas-Fee and Saastal do not allow cars to ruin the serenity of the villages. Visitors park in a car park and either walk or take public transport into town and up to the resorts. The placid sense of the place gives an impression of earlier, simpler times. Saas-Fee is part of the Mischabel mountain chain, so there is plenty of outdoor mountain related recreation. From the 145 km of 48 ski runs to the 15 km long slope from 3600 meters, there is plenty of skiing and snowboarding on the hillsides. Having said that, Saas-Fee and Saastal ski vacations don’t stop on the slopes. The world’s highest revolving restaurant serves customers at 3500 meters. The Geneva airport is 230 km away, or just over three hours by public transfer. The summer, too, includes just as many activities from golfing, hiking, horse riding, mini golf to fixed rope climbing routes and tennis.
Saas-Fee and Saastal Accommodation: Saas-Fee and Saastal are awash with hotels, apartments, chalets and other lodges to spend nights. Many reflect an alpine texture and wooded finish that seems in tune with the natural surroundings. Saas-Fee and Saastal has, since the 1960s when skiers first started coming, kept a traditional air while serving thousands of skiers and snowboarders annually.

Saint Moritz – Engadin – Ski Vacations Geared To Intermediates The resort of Saint Moritz is part of the Engadin ski area, as many other ski resorts in the area are part of the same ski pass opening up a world of possibilities—such as Aela, Maloja-Furtschellas, Sils-Corvatsch, Piz Nair, et cetera—and 350 km of skiing opportunities. The closest airport to Saint Moritz-Engadin is Milano (Milan) in Italy, roughly 175 km away. Saint Moritz skiing in general is well-catered to intermediate and advanced skiers; however, many of the beginning slopes will get quick learners up to red skiing in no time. There are 88 total ski runs with all the other resorts included. The longest of any slope skiable here is 11 km, losing around 1500 meters of altitude. The piste breakdown, as hinted earlier, tips the scales to red skiers—they get 245 km of the 350 km and 61 of the 88 total slopes—incredible! Blues get 70 km and only 18 of the 88 total ski runs. Black runs, though receiving only 9 total runs over 35 km, are still very challenging and can take weeks to conquer. The skiing areas start at 1800 meters and top off at 3303 meters, with the resort sitting just 50 meters above the lowest altitude at 1850 meters. Snowboarding is treated with open arms in Saint Moritz Engadin. In fact, they were one of the first to host the Snowboard World Championships back in 1987! Snow parks, half pipes, wave rides, cross, mumps and boxes and then some await chronic snowboard addicts.
Saint Moritz Engadin Accommodation: Three and four-star hotels and lodges await those interested in testing the frozen winter tundra of St. Moritz. There are some lofty apartments with views a little outside of the town center. Chalets and more personal lodges are also readily available. The impressive and affordable “sport” hotels know how to pamper hardcore skiers and boarders.

Verbier – Les 4 Vallées – Ski Holidays For Couples, Families & Pros
Verbier – Les 4 Vallées is by and large one of the biggest interlinked ski resorts in all of Europe, and the surprising reality is that all of it lies entirely within Swiss borders. Verbier has other linked resorts just moments away by the integrated lift system. One ski pass, then, gives admission to Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon, and Mont Fort—that’s over 330 km of ski runs. The resort and lowest skiable piste lies at 1500 meters; the highest lift goes all the way to the top at 3330 meters, with a vertical drop of over 15 km possible, which is equivalent to dropping out of an airplane for over 2500 meters! Additionally, beginners and intermediates will have the most runs, while experts will have the most challenging they may have ever faced. The slope dissection looks something like this: 19 blue runs spread over 135 km; 20 red runs spread over 170 km and 5 black runs spread over 26 km. There are 17 lifts capable of transporting upwards of 40000+ skiers per hour. One lift dubbed “Le Jumbo” in particular can carry 150 people in one go to Mont Fort (glacier). Snowboarding in Switzerland has always been welcomed with open arms (and pistes). Verbier – Les 4 Vallées is by no means any different. Here, the La Chaux 1936 Neipark—with beginner, intermediate and professional slides, boxens, jumps and tablets—is probably the most famous. The annual Xtreme ski and snowboard invites 30 of the world’s best riders to participate for first place. Don’t think that pros can just jump in—this race is for invites only, meaning only the better of the best are invited to ski and board.
Verbier – Les 4 Vallées Accommodation: Many of the hotels in the Verbier area are either very close to a town center or just a few steps from the lifts. In either case, the lodges provide free shuttle service for both pick-up and drop-off. The apartments and chalets in the area can be had for a good price, especially if either pre-booked or booked during one of the slower times of the year. Winter festivities and summer horse riding, mountain bike and 4 x 4 races keep an influx of visitors almost any time of the year.

Zermatt

Zermatt - Switzerland’s Number One Ski Vacation Destination Zermatt is Switzerland’s top skiing resort destinations. Visited by locals and foreigners from far-flung lands alike, Zermatt’s inescapable beauty and snowcapped slopes make it hard to beat. A Zermatt hotel, for instance, will offer views of the Matterhorn or give perspectives of the 28 other surrounding peaks.
The highest slopes always have more than enough powder, while the lower slopes get blasted with snow cannons when necessary. The highest skiable altitude in Zermatt is 3899 meters, with the lowest at 1620 meters. Additionally, there are 121 ski runs branching out for 313 km. The longest slope is 21 km, so it is no wonder people take a bus from the Bern airport, 130 km away (with direct bus linking the two).
Zermatt, additionally, used to boast year round skiing with its 1000 meter glacier. Today, though, the summer skiing may be a thing of the past with global warming taking its toll on the surrounding ice.
Snowboarding in Zermatt is also very trendy with plenty of pro and amateur parks to ride.
Zermatt Accommodation: Zermatt skiing is only made possible because of all the hotels for visitors. Chalets, apartments and alpine-esque houses make any stay here comfortable and relaxing. By the way, Zermatt is a car free resort - if you’re hotel window faces the street, it still will be quite quiet. Zermatt can suit any visitor, coming for a few weeks to a few days.
Zermatt is rich in its ability to offer a wide range of winter activities other than skiing and snowboarding. Winter walking, tobogganing, snowshoe hiking, ice climbing, skating and hockey and curling are also available as well as paragliding. You’ll never see Zermatt the same way again; in free flight, with a bird’s eye view, floating on nothing but the wind, you will see Zermatt in a completely new light.
