The Saas valley is located in the south of Switzerland on the border with Italy. Well-known resorts, such as Locarno and Ascona in the canton of Ticino are also at the same latitude. The Saas valley enjoys a mild, evenly-balanced climate despite its high altitude, as indicated by the unusually high tree-line and the rich and colourful alpine flora among other things. Visitors can enjoy around 300 days of sunshine a year here in Saas Fee.
Apart from its 350 km long network of hiking paths, the Saas valley also has a wide variety of summer activities for both old and young: summer skiing and snowboarding, mountain biking, mini-golf, pétanque, pit pat, horseback riding, scooters, aerobics, climbing sessions for children and sunrise excursions, to name but a few.
The car-free glacier resort of Saas-Fee, situated at an altitude of 1.800 metres above sea-level, enjoys a dry climate with a few allergens, which is of benefit to people who suffer from allergies and asthma. Carl Zuckmayer, the German author and a honorary citizen of Saas-Fee, chose to make the latter his home: "A day not spent in Saas-Fee, is only half a day for me. Only here is my life complete."

WHY WE RECOMMEND IT
Saas-Fee is one of the world's most beautiful ski resorts, set in a spectacular location, surrounded by the highest mountains of the Swiss Alps. Saas-Fee is made still more magical by the glaciers rising above it which are covered in snow year round and make it a popular summer skiing destination. Better still, when a road capable of carrying motor traffic finally reached this previously inaccessible village in the early 1950s, the wise folk in the resort promptly banned cars from the narrow streets, so Saas-Fee has always been for pedestrians only.
The village's high altitude and the dizzying heights reached by the ski lifts give it, not only a world-class skiable vertical drop, but also one that begins so high above sea level. It is normally snowsure from the very start of the season to the end.
Although Saas-Fee has successfully retained its traditional charm, it is also at the cutting edge of technology when it comes to its mountain infrastructure. Lifts include a modern underground funicular railway train, and the world's highest revolving restaurant is also here on the Mittelallin at 3,500m (11,480ft).
