Avoriaz 1800: Ski Vacations in French Alps
Avoriaz 1800 exists for the purpose of bringing skiing to this part of France. Though the Avoriaz hotels aren’t all aesthetically meshed with the Alp-esque feel, it’s this scenery that really captures skiers and snowboarder’s attention. Lying just above Morzine, Avoriaz 1800 forms part of the cluster of ski resorts belonging to the Portes du Soleil ski area, the part of the French Alps that draws thousands of skiers each snowy season. The area adheres to this Alp feel because there are no cars or vehicles at all. A shuttle service is of course available, but part of the Avoriaz charm is the horse drawn sleighs carrying visitors back and forth across the snow. Above, the skiing is always covered in fresh powder with a maximum altitude of 2466 meters. The resort at 1800 meters is the lowest altitude. A short 88 km bus ride from Geneva airport gives way to 266 ski runs, an 8 km slope dropping 1200 meters. The newly designed snowboard park conceptualized by Jake Burton houses a half pipe and fun park.
Avoriaz 1800 Accommodation: Along with a plethora of things to do outside of the ski area, there are enough and to spare aprčs skiing activities at the hotels. From spas to massages to shops and restaurants/bars, the accommodations in Avoriaz are capable of handling the most demanding of clientele. Many three star “residences” dot the landscape, with apartments, chalets, and many lodges advertise the best deals during the doldrums lower ski season.

Chamonix Mont-Blanc : Ski Vacations Made Easy
In Chamonix Mont-Balnc, the areas of Brévent/Flégere, Argentiere and the Balme areas (and more) are all accessible with a Mont Blanc Unlimited ski pass. The highest skiable mountains reach 3842 meters with over 180 slopes. The altitude is blessed with guaranteed snow, making skiing or snowboarding possible throughout the long winter. There are drag, chair and cable car lifts taking skiing enthusiast and snowboarding devotees to the tops. There is more than skiing at Chamonix Mont-Blanc, however. Other outdoor pursuits include ice-skating, dog sledding, paragliding, mountaineering, climbing, snowshoeing and alpinism. The summer season brings in active holidaymakers to take to the great outdoors, providing a spectrum of extreme to effortless outdoor amusements.
Chamonix Mont-Blanc Accommodation: There is an assemblage of various accommodations in Chamonix Mont-Blanc and many of the accommodations have exceptional views of the jagged mountains. Groups of snowboarders can rent apartments or stay in other lodging. Similarly, families on mini-ski vacations will find a lineup of hotels or apartments to stay in for a week or less.

Courchevel : Popular Ski Holidays
Courchevel lies in the famous Savoy department of France. Its home is in the world’s largest international skiing areas, the Three Valleys or Les Trois Vallees. Millions of skiers and snowboarders seek accommodation and slopes and snowparks each and ever winter season. There are some 600 km of ski slopes, with over 150 lying in Courchevel itself. One skiing pass can be purchased to give access to all the Three Valley slopes. There are over 90 ski runs, plenty of cable, drag and chair lifts for transporting everyone and lots of interconnecting cross-country skiing trails. The longest slope in Courchevel travels for seven kilometers. There’s a free style snowboarding park with half pipes, rails, jumps and slides. Courchevel ski vacations don’t stop there. Try snow tubing, tobogganing, curling, and planned sleigh trips. During the summer, hiking, paragliding, mountain biking, fishing, running, golfing and mountain climbing lead visitor venues.
Courchevel Accommodation: There is a range of two- to four-star hotels to choose from. The more pricey apartments and hotels, however, are by far the most popular as they give the easiest out-of-door approach to the slopes.

Isola 2000 – An Under The Summits Ski Holidays
Isola 2000 in France nestles in the southern section of the French Alps, just 100 km from the Nice Cote d’Azur airport. There are lots of summits around here, 15 that are between 2-3000 meters tall. From Sistron, it’s often possible to see the Mediterranean Sea. Isola skiing offers quite the variety, as there are over 2000 hectares of land. The resort proper sits at 2000-meters, though the lowest place skiers can reach is 1800 meters. There are 120 km worth of skiing slopes, with 43 in all, one lying over a total distance of 5 km. There is a mix of 22 different lifts taking skiers and boarders to the top, and 200 snow cannons capable of covering the slopes in mere minutes. Isola 2000 snowboarding does not have the most free-style parks, but there is a snowboard cross and half pipe for those set on snowboarding—many a boarder has had a “yard sale” (wiped out) on these in order to get their tricks to stick. A six-day ski pass, for example, will only run 130 Euros per person during the high season.
Isola 2000 Accommodation: The nice niche that Isola 2000 has in this part of the French Alps is the cozy, small and quiet atmosphere it exudes. Isola 2000, for an alpine resort, maintains the highest quality of hotels and apartments for customers, though visitors never feel crowded or trussed together.

La Plagne is a big part of the Paradiski ski area in France. Snowboarders will find some of the world’s best snowboarding in La Plagne. La Plagne proper is part of the Savoy department and boasts ski holidays like no other. The Vanoise Express links skiing and snowboarding areas. The highest altitude here is 3250 meters with the nearest airport Grenoble is just over 130 km away. Buses and other direct transport services run from the airport to La Plagne everyday, so weekend getaways are the norm. La Plagne ski holidays provide some flashy stats: 225 km of ski paths with a vertical drop of 2000 meters! The breakdown is 20 black, 30 advanced and 70+ intermediate runs, obviously to attract the borderline skiers who want to come with families.
La Plagne Accommodation: The numerous resorts in the area include hotels, lodges, hostels, apartments, with all the amenities of a self-catered rental. There are some really economical low season deals to be had, though these can book up rather quickly.

Les Arcs – A Ski Holiday With Natural Escape
Les Arcs in France started with an idea to be a part of—not apart from—the surrounding alpine nature. Nearly five decades ago, Robert Blanc and Roger Godino convened together, designing the future (aesthetics, look and design) above Bourg St-Maurice—Blanc’s hometown. The construction of the first resort used the areas rocks, trees and natural products. The ones that seemingly shot up both higher and lower also stuck to this conservative yet organic building principle. A short bus from the airport in Grenoble (just 150 km away) or a direct bus or shuttle from the nearby railroad station provides those willing to venture here over 100 km of ski runs. The longest slope leaps above 3200 meters with a 7 km long downhill slope. The maximum drop is over 2020 meters. There is even night skiing, kept open late for night owls who enjoy a little quietude with their powder. All four types of lifts transport thousands per hour, but the whole Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne are skiable with the one Paradiski Skipass—six days for less than 250 Euros! Les Arcs skiing gives plenty of challenges and takes little money to do it.
Les Arcs Accommodation: The newest hotels in Les Arcs do not necessarily use all the surrounding nature to build their resorts, but the ornamentation still sticks to Godino’s and Blanc’s concepts, particularly the rocky, earthy and woody feel. The cheaper two star lodges essentially give a bed and bathroom, while the four star hotels and chalets offer close access to slopes and to town and shopping. Luxury is no new concept to these resorts.

Les Menuires – Ski Holidays Within The Big Three (Valleys)
Les Menuires is part of the huge ski area in France known as Les Trois Vallees, or The Three Valleys. Les Menuires skiing is one of the few places within the Three Valleys where it’s possible to find less people than other nearby resorts. This fact is not because of the skiing but because of the slightly lower elevation than Val Thornes. Les Menuires specifically caters to families and beginner skiers, though there are technical challenges aplenty for the expert skier. There are over 60 ski runs in all, covering some 160 km. The lowest altitude is 1850 meters while the highest reachable point by lift is 2850 meters. There’s even one gradient that travels 5 km total dropping 1400 meters. Snowboarding is minimal, as there is only one snowboarding park. However, the snowboarding areas of other Trois Vallees resorts are easily reached. Given that beginners come from Anglophone and European countries, it’s no wonder the Ecole du Ski Francais (ESF [ski school]) employs over 200 ski instructors. Learning to ski in Les Menuires tops the list for places to learn skiing in France. Chambery has closest airport, a mere 100 km drive.
Les Menuires Accommodation: The nice thing about Les Menuires hotels, chalets and apartments is twofold—they are cheaper than other, and no matter the price, you’ll always have doorstep access to the best of slopes. Though certain rooms have less of a view, certain lodges charge reasonable prices for high season skiing. The hotels in Les Menuires have been serving people since the 60s, so treating visitors right with fair prices is just one facet of the servitude skiers find here.

Meribel – Mottaret – Luxury Ski Vacations In The Three Valleys
When Mr. Peter Lindsay first started developing the land around Meribel, he saw potential for skiing, but he never imagined it could have been this great. Back then, a 30-seat rope sled sledded people to the top of certain hills and slopes. Don’t fret about this lack of infrastructure today, however—with drag and chair lifts and a gondola, Meribel has a very streamlined system of transporting people to the top. Much of the area around Meribel is still today constructed out of local (or at least natural looking) materials—another vision of Mr. Lindsay. The highest altitude here is 2952 meters, with 150 km of slopes and 78 total runs (combine those with the remaining in the Three Valleys ski area and you’ve got over 600 km). The longest slope, however, is about half of the average here at 3.6 km. The closest airport is in Chambery, less than 100 km by road. Snowboarding abounds, with half pipe, fun park, boxen, jumps, slides, with numerous beginner and expert competitions each week.
Meribel - Mottaret Accommodation: Meribel is one of the best ski resorts within the Three Valleys umbrella to find luxury and comfort. Though not as cheap as nearby Les Menuires, Meribel’s hotels offer a wide range of opulence for the price. However, behind the catchy glamour of some hotels, there are still plenty of affordable lodging for those with less.

Montgenevre – Ski Holidays In The Milky Way
Montgenevre is one of the biggest family skiing escapes, with numbers increasing by the hundreds each and every year. With the influx of skiers and snowboarders, the ski area has been extended with 10 km more ski runs and two new cable cars and chairs (telemixs lifts). The area can handle the popularity with 35 lifts total, over 20 drag, 12 chair and 2 gondolas. Montgenevre skiing is so special because it lies right on the Italian border in the Cottian Alps, giving that ambiance of old-world charm but able to handle the logistics of all the modern skiers who come here for ski vacations. Montgenevre is interlinked with the ginormous (Via Lattea) Milky Way ski area (2006 Winter Olympics), offering some 400+ km of ski runs; this includes Pragelato, Claviere, San Sicario, Sestriere and Serre Chevalier. The highest reachable skiing point here is just at 2700 meters, with the lowest at the village at 1860 meters. The area has an amazing almanac-ed forecast of over 300+ days on average of sunshine per year—no other place can prove to outdo Montgenevre. The Montgenevre area celebrated its hundredth anniversary in 2007. Moreover, there are nearly 60 pistes with 25 km of cross-country trails. Skiing in Montgenevre is a long season, usually commencing in early November and finishing in late April. The closest airport, however, lies in Italy, just 100 km away.
Montgenevre Accommodation:
Montgenevre has the usual accommodation found in larger, French-afied ski resorts. This is to say that visitors can book a week or more in luxury suites or chill for longer in shared apartments. Accommodation near the slopes is not always a guarantee, but access is easy enough. The chalets in the area tend to be pricey, especially during the high season. Prices around Christmas and New Year’s can jump by more than 25%. Special deals, however, can be found if one books in advance.

Morzine – Ski Holidays For All
Morzine ski resort has been around for quite some time. It’s mostly popular because it’s easy to get to, but some skiers avoid is because of the effort it takes to get over to Avoriaz. Morzine ski holidays are best for families who want to keep an eye on the kids. The nightlife in Morzine is the traditional French aprčs ski fair, including restaurants, bars, and shops. The skiing in Morzine, though under-rated, is a great escape from the crowds of the other Portes du Soleil ski areas. Here, there is a possible max altitude of 2460 meters, with the lowest lying about 1500 meters lower at 1000 m. One ski run goes for 8 km (1200 meter drop), but with over 260 ski runs to choose from, it’s not hard to find one to fit certain abilities. Morzine is the gateway to Switzerland, so Geneva has the closest international airport, roughly 75 km away. The snowboarding in Morzine is unique to say the least. It has an adopted style from the California resort of North Star. Here, it’s called The Stash as it uses 100% natural snow. Half pipe, fun park, cross, jumps, boxens and wide areas let snowboarders go nuts for hours on end.
Morzine Accommodation: Morzine has little two star hotels encompassing less than 20 rooms to grandeur hotels and apartments that are four-star, ideal and great for commanding views. Many of the hotels and other lodges use shuttles to transport skiers to the slopes, running efficiently every fifteen minutes.

Samo smučišče nudi 25 km urejenih prog in približno toliko izven urjenih smučišč.
Pelvoux je idelano smučišče za družine in tiste, ki imajo radi poceni smučanje oz. snowboardanje. Samo smučišče je mirno in primerno za pravi oddih. Ker gre za najmanjšega od okoliških smučišč, je tudi najmanj obljudeno, tako da na smučišču ni nikoli gneče.
Smučišče se dviga med 1250 in 2300 m nadmorske višine ima pa tudi 30 km urejenih tekških prog. Prav poleg apartmajskega kompleksa je tudi otroško smučišče in smučarska šola.

u Puy Saint Vincent je skijalište koje iznenadi gotovo sve koji stignu prvi put na odredište.
Na prvi pogled malo skijalište, Puy Saint Vincent je destinacija koja može zadovoljiti i najzahtjevnije goste. Najveća prednost skijališta su stanovi koji su svi relativno novi, samo nekoliko godina stari i stoje praktički na stazi. Najduži objekt je smješten 200 metara od linije.
Skijaške staze su raznolike, a pogodne za obitelji, kao i za one koji vole puno skijati. Puy Saint Vincent nije odredište gdje možete otkriti puno putovanjem s brda na brdo, ali još uvijek ima dovoljno staza i za posljednji dan kada ćete naći stazu koju još niste odskijali.
Za one koji žele u što kraćem roku proći skijanjem što više skijališta, u cijeni paketa je skijaška karta Galaxy. Samo ta karta omogućuje vam jednodnevne izlete do obližnjih skijališta kao što su veliki Serre Chevalier (300 km staza), Montgenevre (400 km staza), Les 2 Alpes (200 km staza), Alpe d'Huez (200 km staza) Pelvoux (30 km staza) i to je sve besplatno.
Vrlo znakovit podatak govori da je 80% gostiju, oni koji su već bili prethodne godine. Ima mnogo takvih, neki dolaze čak 2 puta tjedno.
Slabosti i prednosti Puy Saint Vincent , jesu, da nema puno dodatnih aktivnosti, kao što su centar, diskoteke, restorani, shopping ulica, itd. što je opet prednost jer je mirna destinacija za odmor. Naravno, sve to ima diskoteke, barove, restorani, trgovine, itd..
Zanimljivo Puy Saint Vincent je također prirodni snijeg koji je vrlo poseban. Okolo se nalaze visoka brda, neka viša i od 4.000 m. Iz tog razloga tu pada vrlo suhi snijeg. Omogućeno je super skijanje izvan skijališta koja su službeno ovdje, a ima čak 55 km staza. Najveći obožavatelji su upoznati sa Col de Bel. Napomena: pogodan samo za najiskusnije.
Puy Saint Vincent svake godine je događaj Free Ride, ali je svakako zanimljivo Forma + Free Ride Week u ožujku i Snow Attack u siječnju.
Snow Park (snježni park) sa snow cross-om je svake godine sve veći i trude se da svake godine bude sve bolji.
Obitelji će obožavati Puy Saint Vincent, jer što je ljepše nego da imaju djecu ispod balkona na snijegu, uz skijaške staze.
Većina objekata ima bazene i saune. To nije tipičan mali francuski apartman. Prije bi se moglo reći da su apartmani prostrani, ipak preporučujemo da ako je moguće, priuštite si apartman sa dva kreveta za više nego što ima ljudi, jer će odmor biti puno više udobniji i kvalitetniji.
Puy Saint Vincent je definitivno najbolje što trenutno možete dobiti za svoj novac u bilo kojem skijalištu u Europi. Preporučujemo ga!

Saint Martin de Belleville is an ideal starting place to discover the valley. A system of marked paths, which can be taken on foot or snowshoes, leads through the small villages perched on the side of the mountain. The stone walls are sometimes 2 or 3 centuries old : we have still not invented anything better to protect from the cold.
Don´t hesitate to chat with the inhabitants. The older ones, who still speak local dialect, will be delighted to tell you about life in the mountains. They may even divulge one of their secrets. Lots of things have changed since the skiers have arrived, but the principal one - the joy of living in this valley - has been preserved.

Tignes : A Ski Vacation Up High
Tignes in France has over 300 km of slopes and pistes. Believe it or not, Tignes is one of the highest ski resorts of this French Alps chain, with several other ski areas either connecting or close by. Skiing Tignes gives access to the famous Espace Killy (ski passes ranging around 200 Euro for six days!) and Val d’Isere. The uttermost altitude starts at 3450 meters and gives way to a 6 km of downhill slope, with 150 km of 154 ski runs branching off the mountains. The Geneva airport in Switzerland is 165 km away, with a bus frequently coming to Tignes. The rail line for Tignes stops at Bourg St. Maurice, just 30 km away. The accessibility of ski holidays to Tignes has made it one of the most frequented by locals and outsiders alike - all cultures unite for some great skiing and terrific snowboarding. The Aprčs ski venues are noticeably becoming more popular, as discos and bars with live music blare well into the night.
Tignes Accommodation: Tignes hotels, apartments, chalets and lodges include the whole shebang from two and three star to four and five star housing. There are some great deals on four stars, both during low and high season. Prices vary by the locale, but most hotels in Tignes offer reasonable rates and discounts to families and those staying for more than a few days.
