Avoriaz 1800 exists for the purpose of bringing skiing to this part of France. Though the Avoriaz hotels are not all aesthetically combined with the Alpine style, it is this scenery that really captures the attention of skiers and snowboarders. Located just above Morzine, Avoriaz 1800 forms part of the ski resorts group which are part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, the area in the French Alps that draws thousands of skiers each season. The area itself contributes to this Alpine ambience as there are no cars or vehicles at all. A shuttle service is available, but part of the Avoriaz charm are the horse-drawn sleighs carrying visitors across the snow. The upper parts of the area are always covered in fresh powder, especially at the maximum altitude of 2.466 meters. The lowest altitude of the resort is 1800 meters. A short 88 km bus ride from the Geneva airport gives way to 266 ski runs, of which an 8 km slope drops app. 1200 meters. The newly designed snowboard park, conceptualized by Jake Burton, houses a half pipe and a fun park.
