Santa Caterina lies just above Bormio in the Valfurva Valley in Italy. In Lombardy and part of the Alta Valtellina Ski area, Santa Caterina gives access to the famed Bormio and Livigno ski resorts. The highest ski lifts takes skiers just above 2,700 meters with the center of town sitting at just over 1,700 meters. There was recently a new lift system installed with a gondola heading up to Sobretta at 2,775 meters. Additionally, a chairlift goes to the Valle dell’Alpe to Sobretta, so getting to the top in a hurry is never a challenge. For such a tranquil place, there are 35 km of ski runs, with the longest slope careening down the mountainside for 3.7 km. The most vertical one can lose in Santa Caterina while skiing is 982 meters. There are two blue runs going for one kilometer each; 12 red runs going for 27 km and 2 black traveling for just over 6 km. Snowboarding is a bit limited to free riding and taking lessons with a snowboarding instructor; there is no terrain park for snowboarders unfortunately.
